The entire building uses a single central maintenance system. Instead of taping a makeshift sign to broken equipment (or, even worse, making a note and then promptly forgetting about it), a report is made to a qualified person (available at all hours when the theatre is operational) who will then either repair it themselves or arrange for it to be repaired... (etc.)

I actually work somewhere where this system is in effect. It's mindblowing. And awesome. And gives me hope.

My roommate found it before me, and asked, "Is this really your life?"
I watched it and told her, "Pretty much."
She can't quite believe it.

The printer works. Properly. The first time.

And always has enough paper, ink and toner. This goes for all printers: the one in the office, the one in the rehearsal hall and the wee baby portable one that floats between booth and backstage as needed.

Not necessarily "nice for me," but amusing for any SM in the booth. Someone sneaked into the booth, and relabeled the God-mic "Loki."
Needless to say, it took me a second to find it on Monday, and then I was laughing too hard to actually use it for a minute or two.

Actors will never be late. In the event that this rule is broken, sub-clause b) becomes active.
Sub-clause b) states that any tardy actor will call at least half an hour before his or her call, leaving stage management time to make adjustments to the rehearsal schedule, said actor will be VERY apologetic and not at all arrogant and entitled, both on the phone and when they arrive, and will arrive with the director and stage managers favorite caffeinated beverages in hand and apology candy for the rest of the cast and crew.

The Green Room / The Greatest Show Never Made

Who has a premise for a show that should never ever be made? Either for subject matter, technical reasons *coughcoughspidermancoughsplutter* or just plain bad taste?

Here's mine: YouTube: The Musical

"That...that is an excellent question" (For all those things cast members ask you and you can't quite give a diplomatic answer)

Mine is, "That is an excellent question for which I do not currently have an excellent answer. Let me get back to you."

"Don't lick the props."

"Trying to take a cab to the theatre on New Year's Eve might not have been the best choice you've ever made. You have three minutes to be ready to go."

"I am going to murder the person who left the remains of their lunch on my prop shelf."

"What do you mean you can't find your socks?"

"What broke?"

"Is anyone hurt?"

"Thank God I don't have stage fright."

"Everyone has already confirmed for the production meeting, and you want me to reschedule it because you don't feel like coming in before noon? . . . . Fine. Give me ten minutes."

"Hold.  Restore."

Anyone mind if  try to make the S### Stage Managers Say video? I've been wanting to try out my web cam for a while.

I'm a third voice for the string and pulley system. I did Almost, Maine about five years ago. We used a loose-pin hinge to hold our drop box closed, and then one stiff tug on a line, from the booth (probably 30' away) and the shoe fell, without a hitch, every time.

We did the auction walk-on thing a few times at my Christmas show.  Generally, they ended up being my responsibility. They typically had two bits, one at the beginning of the show, and one at the end.
Rehearsal/costume fittings I had to wedge into my show prep time, usually at 15 minutes before half hour.  We'd walk them through their two small bits a few times, and generally had a couple of costumes that would be okay for the role, and just chose whichever one fit best.  These were throw something over your street clothes type costumes, though.
House management would make sure they were seated on an aisle, and about ten minutes before each bit, I'd radio the HM and have her go get our "guest" and bring them backstage, where a stagehand would get them prepped and then (usually) literally shove them out on stage because they couldn't remember their cue from when it was given them, half an hour ago.
They almost always fudged up the scene, but it didn't matter so much, because of the type of show it was.
For a more...precision show, this probably wouldn't work out.

I want a small thermos bottle, just big enough to carry a large cup of coffee or tea.  Sometimes a travel mug just won't cut it, because I need to be able to toss my drink of choice into my bag.

Also, for the run of my Christmas show, this year, I want a traditional Santa hat, except with black fur, instead of white.
