I agree with most of this above.

One of the questions I asked directors in the past was, "How do you want rehearsals run?  Do you want me to formally start, stop, and restart rehearsals or do you want to casually begin with conversation and slowly ease into rehearsal?"

However, I found that most directors think say they like to rehearse casually, but then seem upset when I don't take charge more.

My solution is I am not going to ask that question anymore.

If I took a drink everytime someone said, "While we're stopped," I'd be drunker than Cooter Brown, as they say down here.

"And I don't care if you are the director, you agreed to 0900, so you should at least have the decency to turn up on time. And if you are going to be late due to traffic or some other disaster, I have a mobile phone, and you have my number."

Preach it!

I have noticed that directors who do not begin rehearsal on time encourage lateness in actors.  Which I then have to deal with even into performances.

I just want you to take your line notes out of my hand.  I do not want to hear how you know you did that or "did I say that?  I didn't say that"  or "I know I said that line."  I do not want to hear about your line studying habits ......   just take your line notes!  and go home!

I always buy el cheapos because they have a tendency to disappear or get damaged.

my dilemna with an online callboard is that it keeps all the info up where production staff and cast can access it easily 24/7, but it is also available for anyone to access since it is online ... which could lead to trouble.  especially a problem is posting a contact sheet online.

so the solution is either don't do it .. or password protect it.

i'm worried no one will remember the password.  if it is too much trouble, it won't get used.

When I am with a group of people going out to a restaurant, I do a head count of those going, then tell everyone, "OK, whoever gets there first, tell them we have a party of 12," or whatever the amount is.

Likewise, when the waiter comes for the food or drink order or wants to know if we need refills, invariably not everyone is paying attention.  I call out, "Refill call.  who needs more?"  and so on.  "Hands up if you need more time to order."

Why?  The sooner we all order, the sooner we get our food or drinks!
