In an American city, to the sound of the subway, six lives intersect in this comic adventure about immigrant life in America. I don't usually include years on my resume...does anyone have a way to include remounts without years?

Employment / Listing a remount on your resume?
« on: Jul 23, 2013, 06:33 pm »
How do you list remounts on your resume? As two separate productions, or with a note indicating a remount? Does it depend on if the remount is at the same theatre or transfers elsewhere?

Not married but in a serious relationship. When it comes up, it's more of a conversation of how we will make it work. Since both of us travel for work it's been sort of the norm (and really, we mostly worry about who's going to take care of the cat and pick up the farmshare). He doesn't have a choice about going out of town but I do.

I did almost an entire season out of town, a few years ago. The money was good, the experience was good, but it was hard to spend so much time away from my real life. I chose not to return for the next season for that reason.

There's also something kind of nice about the extra work we put into the relationship when one of us is out of town. We call each night, text pictures and updates during the day, plan visits, etc. And it does make me more grateful of the time I have at home. I'm working out of town right now, but I'm able to come home on Mondays and Tuesdays, and we usually try to have a date night when I'm home.

No really hard conversations yet but being in the relationship (and our future plans, like wanting to buy a home) shapes my career decisions.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Unruly musical cast

Agreed about the sign! I did this on a show with a large volunteer chorus who couldn't keep quiet. Made a quick sign and held it up- it caught their attention and was fairly effective. Can you deputize a couple of the adults to help remind folks?

Hi and welcome aboard. Everyone has a bad tech now and then, and it certainly takes a while to get your bearings. It's good to reflect on how things could have gone better- that's what will make you a better stage manager the next time around.

From how you describe it (a new space with limited tech time, SM creating cues, etc), your show sounds like part of a summer festival. That kind of situation can be stressful- and hindsight is 20/20. I would suggest taking some time to reflect on what can be done to make your next rehearsal better. (Updated paperwork, better communication, etc). Don't spend a lot of time beating yourself up- it's not productive. Just work on making things better next time.

We've all been there. I hope you take a look around and see what experiences others have shared- and share what you learn from yours. Best,

Maribeth

Take a look at this thread for some "cons" that SMs have talked about before: http://smnetwork.org/forum/the-green-room/the-things-we-give-up-for-theatre/ . A lot of members mentioned that stage management often means giving up time with friends and family, in particular special events like weddings and holidays.

Regarding college choices, keep in mind that 1) you don't have to major in theatre to become a professional stage manager, and 2) there's no rule that you have to make up your mind about majors/careers before college starts.

I have found a copy of Pride and Prejudice from http://www.gutenberg.org/ but I would like a copy that I can edit. If someone has that and would be willing to share I will greatly appreciate it. Private message me for my email address please. Thank you so much!

Which adaptation of P&P?

Attached is a sample calling script page.

Hi and welcome Allison! Have you looked into internships in your area? It could be a good way to make a connection with a theatre like the Alliance.
