Aoifebella ~

Here is a link to the document library of Actors' Equity (AEA).
This should take you right to the NATC agreement. www.actorsequity.org/library.asp?cat=3

Here are the addresses of all the AEA offices around the country.
Anyone, at any address, will be most happy to answer any and all of your questions.
Better to go to the source of information than to hear it second-hand.

I agree.
Even with page protectors you can alter cues with the ever-present Sharpie. My current show is a remount and I am using the original script with a few changes for the new venue. We opened tonight (Megf was there) and my pages now go to the page protect library.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / how much time?
« on: Jun 04, 2006, 04:56 am »
I guess it depends on how close together your gigs are, whether or not this is your primary means of employment or something you have the luxury of doing as your individual schedule permits.

Personally, I find that within a hectic schedule, the required week of Pre-Pro that Actors' Equity has established with most contracts, is enough.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Copy the Calling Script
« on: May 29, 2006, 12:28 pm »
Either on the computer or a pencil & ruler version, I ALWAYS copy my Calling Script after Opening Weekend. It's amazing, (okay, tragic) the damage a single spill of any type of liquid does to paper...

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Hospitality backstage
« on: May 14, 2006, 02:20 am »
I always provide coffee (and all the trimmings), water, teabags and red vines. These I consider to be essentials for musicals and straight plays. Hell, I even have this for Dance Companies! My casts are told they are welcome to bring snacks and treats at every opportunity - and they always do!

Congratulations !

Remember that you called the show and you were responsible for the success of the technical aspects of it.

GIVE YOURSELF THE CREDIT YOU DESERVE.

Stage Management: Other / Event management
« on: May 09, 2006, 03:03 pm »
My rate for events such as these is $500 a day. Weekly rates are $2500 but it all depends on budget, location and actual job description. From what you mentioned, I would start from there.

Employment / stage management college degrees

So there you have it, two completely differing opinions on the same subject. Both legit, both from working Stage Managers.

So much of our business is about personal style and choices - much can be learned from both quadrants. I think knowledge is golden, wherever it comes from. Stay open to growth and continue to learn from every opportunity, however it presents itself.

AMEN to that!
So much of a musical is cued with the Maestro that a conductor monitor (if he/she is not visible) is a must in my book.

The Hardline / Concession Requests
« on: Apr 18, 2006, 01:22 pm »
It is standard practice to inform any and all prospective employees of all concessions at the time of auditions and/or interviews.

Please always consult the appropriate Business Rep in the Equity office involved. They will give you the facts and not simply opinions.
