The Hardline / Re: Help?
« on: Jan 18, 2007, 11:39 am »
According to the records I have, a gentleman named Marc Kochanski handles SPECIAL APPEARANCE. If you have trouble getting through to him or he is not the one, try getting in touch with Kathy Mercado or Senior Business Rep, Rick Berg. I called the NY office just yesterday and experienced the same thing - I don't know who I need to talk to and without that name, I talk to the machine!

General number is
212-869-8530

Hope this helps...

My two cents ~

It depends on the actual wording of the contract being worked on.

In LORT, it states that SM's and ASM's, in addition to their contractual salary, will be paid an additional 1/6 of contractual salary. HAT and Mid-Size say 2/8's of contractual in addition to contractual salary.
As always, call your local Equity office and ask the Business Rep who handles the contract you'll be working on.

And then - negotiate!

And more often than not, the word "challenge" is greeted by a smile and an exhalation of relief.

The Hardline / Re: BAT Staged Reading Code
« on: Nov 30, 2006, 01:06 pm »
Hi Heath ~

I'm sure you've seen this agreement, it's the NY Stage Reading Code. I couldn't find the Staged Reading Code referenced to the BAT contract. I also have an agreement I used when I was the Production Manager for MTG - the Musical Theatre Guild - here in LA, that says pretty much the same thing. Yes, I would use the book for reference on everything including breaks...

Questions, as always, call the office! The LA office may prove to be a little more helpful right now as the SF office just got a new Managing Director.

The Hardline / Re: John Holly Retires
« on: Nov 22, 2006, 03:24 pm »
The search for a new Western Regional Director will begin after the first of the year. The National Executive Team will oversee the day to day business until the position is filled. That Team is made up of Steve DePaula;Director of Finances, MaryLou Westerfield; Director of Policy and Carol Wasser; Director of National Contracts.

We are in very good hands so rest assured that they will serve the membership very well until a replacement for Mr. Holly is found.

He will be missed...

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Pre-show Blues

Slow and steady wins your race.

We all had to start somewhere and sometime and it seems that you have the opportunity to help train and guide these individuals who obviously need a little boost. If we support one another in the most positive way we can, we all win.

I don't mean to be sewing a sampler here, but you know everything will work out.
It always does.

And if not, it'll be one helluva story!!!

Hey Mitcha ~

I saved an article about this very thing awhile back.
If you'd like, send me a private email and I'll attach it.

The Hardline / Re: Can they be Deputy?

PLEASE call Equity and ask their advice. It is a very interesting "cast of characters" that you are walking into and I think if Equity doesn't know of this unique situation, they most definitely should.
They will also be able to advise you correctly, given the circumstances.

SMNetwork Archives / Re: Nutcracker
« on: Nov 11, 2006, 11:34 am »
My favorite Nutcracker stories include the absolute stunning stillness immediately after the Battle sequence when all of a sudden it's snowing and Clara lifts her head to see a silhouette of the Nutcracker Prince USC amidst the blue whiteness...

And then the Divas soaking their feet in trashcans full of ice while eating an entire cheese pizza!!!

The Hardline / Re: National Touring with Equity
« on: Oct 24, 2006, 09:18 pm »
I've never toured as a Stage Manager, only as an Actor.
My advice would be to find an SM with Touring experience, buy them a drink or two, and pick their brain!

Darek ~

Both the Production Contract and the LORT Contract have sections in the book associated with Touring. Did you find these? Also try writing/emailing/calling the AEA Business Rep in your area that handles these contracts to ask more specific questions.

The Hardline / Re: Fight Captain Selection
« on: Oct 22, 2006, 01:53 pm »
Hi Ellen ~

The major rule books (Production, LORT and WCLO) all mention the need for a Fight Captain and outline when rehearsals and runthroughs should be conducted (15 minutes prior to Half Hour) but don't directly address your question. I would suggest you get in touch with the Business Rep that handles the contract in your area and chat about it. I'm sure they will have some ideas and suggestions that will help in your situation.

Best,
VSM
