The Green Room / Re: Best showing of appreciation from a cast?
« on: Jul 11, 2010, 12:54 am »
I spent my birthday doing a show too, and my director organized (without me knowing, which is a near miracle) the cast into a harmonized rendition of Happy Birthday (it was a musical), and the lead gave me a hug. It was a Friday, and there had been questions about whether school transportation would be available, and despite there being no actual problem, my ASM had bailed (again), and I wasn't having a great day, and it just made my day.

If all the world's a stage, can I talk to the fight choreographer? And the set designer, and the director, and the producer?

All the world's a stage, so leave me alone; I've got work to do!

Why must you switch schools?
Too few boys can sing and act
Who will be Anthony*?

I hope freshmen act
I hope new freshman can sing
Wanted: new male lead

*Boy leaving should be
Anthony from Sweeney Todd
But he is leaving

I have not hit college yet, but I'm pretty much definitely going. It's the socio-economic thing Matt mentioned. And, speaking with only the experience of an obsessive planner, I can say that I do *not* want a highly structured BFA. I want to be able to learn about all areas of theatre, and also pursue my interest in Spanish and take academic electives.I hope to gain experience working in non-high-school theatre (internships open to high schoolers only let you get so far) and explore all of theatre without the pressure of professional theatres. Also, I am a person who really benefits from being taught things, rather than just picking them up, and my high school only has one tech theatre class, so I would hope to develop my technical skills.

As for finances, I am a little ashamed to admit that I haven't really thought about it that much yet, so I don't want to say anything drastically inaccurate, as I am wont to do when speaking about things I haven't thought through thoroughly.

The Green Room / Re: show us your booth!
« on: Jul 11, 2010, 12:02 am »
The Jello-ed made me hyper-ventilate briefly. Then I strayed to the painful methods I would use to murder the culprits. And then I had to admit a grudging admiration for whoever thought of that. I mean, really. That was ingenious.

I will take a picture of my booth in school as soon as I get back (it's much cleaner since my friend and I brought ourselves off SST (show standard time) by cleaning it obsessivly, removing what was probably five years or more of dust and other crap. I will also provide pictures of my outdoor booth in August, which I am interested to see.

Also, Ruth, your theatre is so pretty! I love the view.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Mentorship Program
« on: Jul 05, 2010, 10:41 pm »
I would LOVE an email mentorship. I'm a freshman in high school, and I got thrown head first into stage managing. I'm figuring it out as I go and loving it, but being able to ask questions of and get advice from an older student or even a professional would be such a help, and an amazing experience. It's true that the places of a stage manager is a lonely one sometimes.

I called traffic lights before I realized I was a stage manager. Now I know why...

I tend to make lots of to-do lists, but only when I'm working on a show. I also tend to take over when my family is trying to get out of the house on time. I'm slowly training them to follow orders. We've been improving.  ;)  I'm also the default announcer at parties. If it's too loud, the host will come to me, and I'll make sure that everyone hears. It's rarely worse than a dressing room full of actors.
