College and Graduate Studies / Equity Books

Hey, I was wondering if anyone had any extra Production Contracts, LOA Contracts, Off Broadway, Showcase, etc they could send me. I studied the LORT Contract this year in school but I would love a chance to look at some others and expand my library with resources. I know the information is available online but I am looking for hard copies. And bu contracts, I mean the rule books, not your personal contract.

PM me if you can help and sorry if there is some Equity rule about not giving them to non AEA people. I'm EMC is that helps?

I am really really really sorry if anyone went there and this offends them but I have heard really bad things about their undergrad... I have, on the reverse of that, heard great things about their grad program. PM me.

Look are for my thread. I just asked this question. I'm a senior at SUNY Purchase.

The Hardline / Re: Being offered my card, good idea?
« on: Aug 10, 2007, 10:15 pm »
There is a clause with AEA about productions for completion of a degree, yes? So if I went to grad school with my card (I have only one year left of undergrad, just general eds) would I be able to SM productions there?

May be a silly question-but I can still do other theatrical work (lighting, wardrobe, makeup) on the side since they aren't part of AEA, correct?
That's my understanding of it but I could be wrong. I looked into it a bit until I decided I wanted to intern after I graduate and not freelance in NYC.

Your best bet... CALL EQUITY.

I am actually going to be e-mail every LORT Theatre and asking about Internships and PA jobs. I really want to work in the regional theatre world, can ya tell?

Join us…join us…but also remember that working in the regions isn’t just about LORT.    You may want to start your search by thinking about where you do want to live, or look at the theaters which are doing work you enjoy, and then research what kind of contract they’re working under and what positions they offer.

Seattle is my first choice and LORT was the first place I thought to look. My first choice is the Internship at Seattle Rep I have heard great things about it! My second would probably be ACT. Thanks for your input!

I use Standy By's, Wind Ups, and G-Os. I actually think thats what the book might mean but I dunno. For me. I "Stand By" about 1m - 30sec before the cue. Then wind up "Lights 23..." just before and then give the G-O where ever its supposed to be.

I have heard of people saying Warn instead of Stand By but never both on the same call.

(I'm only in college, so don't take my word for it!  :))

Do what makes you happy.

If you love theatre and it will make you happy and your family could still function, then do it. If you know you will be living our of a cardboard box then take the paying one. But BE HAPPY!

I believe Trinity Rep in Rhode Island houses people?  Check ArtSearch and playbill.  Or call the theatres and just ask!

I think you are going to be hard pressed to find housing for an internship with the status of LORT theatre budgets.  I know LORT theatres that are going so far as to refocusing their casting of Equity actors to hire more locals to avoid the housing costs.  Shakespeare Santa Cruz is LOA to LORT and I believe they offer dorm housing to their non-Eq asms (not sure if you are looking for intership specifically for some reason);  of course, they are in the middle of their season right now so you'd have to wait until next summer.

Yeah I figured. I just wanna leave new york but I dont think PAing / ASMing will pay me enough that I could live anywhere else.

Hey all. I was just wondering if anyone here knew about any LORT Theatre internships (outside of NY) that offer housing. I'm looking to get far far away from the new york scene for a while (or forever). I've been doing alot of research but I havn't found much with housing.

Thanks in advance!

Tools of the Trade / Re: IM Programs in Rehearsal
« on: Aug 01, 2007, 06:45 pm »
I've actually used this to communicate with my PSM during rehearsal if we needed to talk, rather than whisper but it wasn't used all the time. Just if we needed something and we were both on our laptops doing other paperwork.

I think that's a great idea tho!

"Honk!" is a great musical for high schools.  It's a lot of fun and tame enough that no parents will complain.  If you don't want to do a musical I would suggest something simple that the parents will enjoy.

We're doing that at the summer camp I work for. I would say its a big juvanille for high school students but then again we did Jekyll and Hyde / Scarlet Pimpernel / JCS in my high school so my standards might be a bit high.

If you can get away with it. Jekyll and Hyde is great and fun.

I started in high school too. We had two separate campuses and the 9th / 10th grade high school was in need of a stage manager. I applied for the job with the director at the time and was told it was between me and another student. He told me that since my father has recently died he wasn't going to give me the job because of the unneeded stress.... being the hard ass I was back then I told him that I could do the job regardless of my personal life and it made me want it and want to be the best I could be. After doing that and trying my hand at other job around the theatre, I decided thats where i wanted to say. I stage managed every show in my 4 years of high school and then applied to SUNY Purchase (and only SUNY Purchase) and got it.... and the rest.... is history!

So it all started because someone told me I wouldn't be able to handle it.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Just remember that you have to work with them the next day.
