Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: rehearsal spaces
« on: Nov 08, 2019, 08:42 am »
Larger theatres, universities, churches, community centers, high schools (particularly if you rehearse in the evenings/weekends). If you have some way of being mutually beneficial to each other that can help- donate theater tickets to a school auction, advertise a business in your program, etc.

Sometimes putting out into the community that you are having trouble finding affordable space will yield results. Ask other small companies in the area where they rehearse!

I make mine in Word (or an equivalent like OpenOffice). I use the underline feature to create a straight line from the cue word to the side of the page, then I use a text box to write the cue itself. I also put a box around the cue word (or note).

I find it's generally easier to tech with a pencil and paper, and transfer the cues during down time, so that I'm not holding up tech. Once I'm done, I save it as a PDF so that things don't get messed up the next time I open the file. And, I print a hard copy to call off of- don't want to have a computer failure mid-show! :)

Are there any companies that you have gone back to a number of times? If so, you could include your supervisors/etc from those positions, and then have the more complete list on your resume. If you have those as several examples from your career experience, and more details in your cover letter/resume/interview to flesh things out, that should give them a good idea of what your experience is without listing 50 shows.

I had to do the same thing when applying for my current position- fitting a theatrical-style resume into a traditional work history web form is a pain! I chose a couple of examples, and then included freelance PM work and events work as different positions, since they use different skills. I really tried to tailor my experience to the job posting, so if you have any experience that really lines up with what they are looking for, those might also be good shows to use for this web form.

Good luck!

Employment / Re: resume format
« on: Apr 23, 2019, 07:34 pm »
I have two resumes- one that is mostly a list of productions, and another in a more "narrative" format that lists jobs held, dates, and responsibilities that were associated with the positions. I include my stage management experience as one "job" on this resume, but the responsibilities listed with it are more detailed.

Depending on what kind of job you are applying for, you could create a resume that best fits. For stage management positions, I usually send the "list" format, and for other positions the "narrative" format. Or you could do a combination. For a while I had a "Related Experience" section on the list resume, which had production management/special events positions.
