I was looking for a stage manager's email here at work for a time sensitive gig . . . I knew his name, but nothing else . . . sadly, could not find him at all.

Don't get hung up on who runs what . . . in reality there is no set rules for this.

Yes, there are times on a long running show, the PSM/SM would be responsible.  But that is for particular productions.

On my current show, which is running now 14 years . . . there is a level of resident directors, and two levels of Associate directors . . . so, I am not at all responsible for anything artistic . . . all rehearsal are run by a member of the directing/choreography/music department.  At the end of the day it's turning off.

Don't get bent out of shape if on any specific project the requirements change.  You should always be ready to step into action, but feel free to step out of the way as needed.

Last time I ran a board, I asked for $200.00 a week.

Which was 25% on my base salary.

And all I did was DURING show - there was a requirement that all checks, maintenance, etc was done by staff pre-show.

(This was still cheaper then hiring a board operator)

This was at a LORT C Theater.

Employment / Resume Submissions for National Tour

I am trying to collect resumes to diversify my candidate pool for subs and future replacements.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of SM experience, especially in running tracks on deck.  Calling experience on large shows with automation is a plus, but no just for subs.  Be opening to tour, and available to tour.  Good sense of humor, eye for detail, and maturity are very important.

I totally agree with the we need X item by Y date for Z reason - to fill people in and help them prioritize your needs. 

PM me your email address, and I can send a sample report.

I am the opposite of you - I always get gently chided for VERBOSE reports, with too much details - in fact there are times I need to edit out information so it's not so overwhelming.

Pictures are great - if not included in the main body of the email, sent to the department directly.  We broke the chair again, but this time we cracked the center support beam (picture to be sent directly to props).  Costume shop doesn't need that picture.

In New York, you will most likely get a visit at your AEA Business Meeting, and then a walk thru at some point.

If you are working on a high profile piece or a new musical, expect many many visits . . . I had five during HUNCHBACK at LJP, and then three more when the show transferred to Paper Mill.

It happens.

7 week rehearsal process . . .

Not blocked . . .

I wouldn't be too worried.

Not talking to fight director or figuring our blood effects, I would be more worried.

I think the best thing to do is talk to him about his process and time line - when does he expect to be blocked, when does he want to do runs, etc, etc . . . and get a sense of his pace and process.

I just got the Apple watch . . . and I have to say I love it for the purposes you listed.  I just scan to my wrist, checkout the message and make a decision if I need to pull out the phone.

I fear making up paperwork for hypothetical shows could be tricky - mark it as such.

if you do paperwork for a production of, let us say, Hamlet.
I look over your portfolio, and I see paperwork for Hamlet.
I ask when you did Hamlet - you say, oh never, I just made it up.
The next question I would ask is . . . "Did you do any of these shows?"
Awkward moment.
