Stop by your local Equity office and ask for a list.
Or write and request one, they may charge a dollar or so but hey...

Not everyone agrees with the previous opinions about Union jurisdiction. One could argue that AEA and AGMA are both sister unions in the AFL-CIO which prohibits it's members from working without a union contract in another's jurisdiction - AEA members may not work AGMA jobs without the proper AGMA contract and vice versa. And obviously, one could not take non-union work in another arena while remaining a member of another union and consequently, the AFL-CIO. Union members work Union.

As always, anyone can go to the Equity website (www.actorsequity.org), go into the document library and view all the rules in any rulebook.

This specific question is addressed in the COST Rulebook - Rule #29 (A2) and Rule #49 (B2)

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: PreProduction time
« on: Sep 11, 2007, 12:32 pm »
I notice you list AEA as an affiliation so you know the rules.  That said, are you speaking about production meetings?  I regularly go to prod meetings whenever they are held.  Doing work however, should be under  contract; that's why we have pre-production pay.  If you are being asked to do specific tasks before the contract begins, perhaps the explanation of pre-pro pay would help ease any tension and help make your case?  If producers say that the contract doesn't require pre-pro pay, that could be the opportunity to say that it also doesn't call for unpaid work before the term begins either.  Best of luck...

Employment / Re: References from the same organization??

Are they all resident designers at the same company?

If not, and if some freelance, I think that you could simply not associate them with that particular company. That way, you reap the rewards of including all three and it doesn't look like they're all from the same place...?

I'm sorry you got screwed over.
That never feels good.

The GA salary rates did go up recently but $100? That seems, at first blush, like a lot. The GA agreement is staff generated, meaning there are no active committees that deal with concession requests on a regular basis. The Chairs of the committees are usually the only ones consulted. There are those of us who would like to see this policy changed so I urge you to call the Business Rep in your area that made that concession, express your displeasure with the decision and then offer to serve on the committee. This may prompt a conversation about the actual committee and give you the opportunity to speak with your region's committee chair and ask that more input from the field be required before concessions like these are made.

I know you are very active in several areas of your profession so don't give up on this one, Erin.
You can make a difference!

Best of Luck,
VSM

Once again, check the contract.
All out-of-town Actors require per diem.
You may have a unique situation on your hands.
I hope the actors call the office and ask the appropriate questions to get what is due them.

The Hardline / Re: Guest Artist Agreements
« on: Sep 04, 2007, 11:34 pm »
So, after speaking with the LA Business Rep I have discovered that the definition of an "out-of-town" actor is clearly spelled out in the Guest Artist Guidelines and not the actual rulebook itself. This document is also available online in the AEA Document Library. The LA Rep explains to anyone asking that "any actor whose home address is 50 miles or greater from the theatre" is defined as "out-of-town".

The inclusion of the definition in the actual rulebook and a more detailed, acceptable definition of housing is currently in discussion with the National Committees of AEA. National Staff is discussing the issue of using the same definition to all inquiring parties.

I urge any member who has an opinion, gripe or suggestion for change to write to your closest office and let your voice be heard.

Fraternally,
VSM

Thanks for all your comments and concerns.
I will take them all personally to the national staff of AEA and see what can be done.

I agree with Rebbe.
Please note that the SPT Rulebook has been extended by a year to 2008.
The new rulebook can be found in the AEA Document Library.

Heath ~

I, too, recommend calling the Business Rep.
We do far more damage by turning a blind eye.

If you live in a city where Equity has an office, LA, NYC, SF, Chicago or Orlando, try asking for a rulebook at the front desk. There will be a nominal charge but explain that you are EMC and want to learn more about your Union-to-be. If that fails, PM me and I'll send you a few!

Bravo for getting info off the website before you even posted!!!

As you can see, there are LOTS of contracts out there and the Guest Artist agreement is intended as an entry to Equity contract.  You seem to have a terrific attitude and willingness to do your best by all involved, so trust your instincts, keep open lines of communication between your cast and do call your local AEA Rep with any questions.

Have a great time!
