"Do you still need to Apprentice to get your credits??"

I'm not reallly sure I understand what you mean by apprentice.
Can you explain a little about how it works in CAEA?

Equity's Director of Policy says no.
Sorry...

"Some on this side have said SMs are overshadowed by the actors in Actor's Equity and are sometimes taken advantage of by the contracts used."

As a Stage Manager Councilor for the Western Region of Actors Equity Association, I feel we are very well represented on the Council of our Union. Ask a Councilor; Stage Manager, Principal or Chorus and they will tell you the word equity is quite appropriate when it comes to the decisions made. These are the people who take the time out of their day and career to represent you, the Equity member. And we do it for free.

I agree with Matthew that AEA is the best place for us to have the collective bargaining power available to us. We work and live with the actors in all our productions and a different Union or set of work rules would simply not serve the purpose of creating the best work we can. Together.

Yes.
I think that Equity should represent Stage Managers.

Try this...

And I'm assuming you are talking about the LORT website and not AEA, right?

Try Rule 60 (G) - SICK LEAVE, ILLNESS & BEREAVEMENT of the LORT Rulebook.

Sorry to hear you're in this situation, it is never easy.
But - that being said, your conversation can be.

I would start by reminding the actor that he is setting an example to the rest of the cast what it means to be a Union Actor, something many of them (including yourself) may aspire to be. His behavior and demeanor are being watched and emulated by many of the cast and you wouldn't want for him to get tripped up or acquire a bad rep for such a silly thing as lateness. A little kissing up goes a long way...

As to the drinking, well... Many people can have a glass of wine or a beer at dinner and be perfectly fine. So do be careful how you approach him. But definitely do say something. Casually at first but let him know that alcohol on his breath is setting a very poor example and intoxication will not be tolerated by management. That includes yourself and your producer.

Personally, I'd clean up.
We live there, we should keep it clean.
As to the infestation, I'd get in touch with management and ask for their assistance.

Happiest of Birthdays, Kay.
You do so much for this community, what little trinket can we surprise you with?

It becomes really tricky in the LORT world when there is not an Equity ASM in place.
The Equity "P.A." then naturally does the work of the ASM without benefit of the contract showing 2 things:
One - That the work is valid and needs to be done
Two - There are AEA individuals willing to do it without benefit of contract

Kinda like shooting ourselves in the foot...

IMHO it's the danger of crossing over the line and doing SM work.
Follow your gut, you're the one holding the rolaids...

Stagehands and Producers Break Off Talks
By CAMPBELL ROBERTSON

Published: November 19, 2007
Excerpt from The New York Times

The latest round of talks between the producers’ league and the stagehands’ union broke down last night, leaving no end in sight for the strike that has darkened most of Broadway for nine days.

Soon after the breakdown, the League of American Theaters and Producers announced that it was canceling performances of the 27 shows affected by the strike through Sunday.

No further talks have been scheduled.

The negotiations — which lasted for more than 13 hours Saturday and for 11 hours yesterday — came to a halt a little after 9 p.m.

Bruce Cohen, a spokesman for the stagehands’ union, Local 1 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, said in a statement that “producers informed Local 1 that what Local 1 offered was not good enough, and they left.”

Charlotte St. Martin, the executive director of the producers’ league, said: “We presented a comprehensive proposal that responded to the union’s concerns about loss of jobs and earnings and attempted to address our need for some flexibilities in running our business. The union rejected our effort to compromise and continues to require us to hire more people than we need.”

The producers decided to cancel the performances, she said, so that tourists coming to town for the Thanksgiving weekend could make other plans.

My question now becomes "Why does AGMA NOT prohibit non-union work amongst it's members?"
Supposedly, a Union member should not be working without a contract in any of the 4-A's unions, so where do you get your info that AGMA does not enforce this rule?
