Yay! The lemon juice worked! I use a similar setup in funky apartments sometimes. It's cheap and a lot more effective/pleasant than air freshener. Lemons are pungent little things.

Introductions / New Member Scavenger Hunt - June 2013
« on: Jun 01, 2013, 04:00 am »
Okay! New month, new scavenger hunt. Everyone who has joined since May 1 is eligible. Our prior winner was Sarah.E, who found the answer to the May hunt in 8 days. Can you beat her record?

As a reminder....

How it works:
I will post something for you to search for.
Reply with a link to the post or topic that I'm talking about and, if you choose, an explanation of why you chose it.  Your link may be deactivated if you're very very new. That's OK.
Replies must use proper grammar.
All hunts will be things that you can find within SMNetwork.
Only members who have registered within the past month are allowed to reply.

The prize:
The first new member who provides a valid and grammatically correct answer will have their post count artificially increased to 5. This means they will be allowed to post to all boards (including Homework Help) without moderator review.
If you've already made at least 5 posts, you get street cred. :)

This month's hunt:
Find the post where I list every member who has ever served as a moderator.

It's brought in 13 visitors, 130 hits so far.

And 6 new members - that's a new academy record! (2 of the new members are still pending email verification.)

...who has a problem?

Indeed, Ruth.

Based on the size of the messages database table, if you were to print out all of our conversations - just the text, no attachments or forms - the site would take up 15,000 pages. That's about a 30 volume encyclopedia.

And yet we still find more stuff to discuss. Either we really like to talk or this job is far more complex than most people realize.

Or both.

Sarah, you have proven yourself by winning the first scav hunt. You have obviously read the rules and know how to use the search function. I look forward to seeing how your research proceeds. If you want to drop me a PM with your questions before you post them to Homework Help I can try and give some pointers to make sure you get some nice, meaty replies.

Congrats, you nailed it! One post count boost coming right up! Thanks for playing, and welcome to SMNet!

We'll have another contest in June. In the meantime, if the newbies want to continue the game by posting their personal favorite discussions about the AEA Showcase Code feel free to do so.

Hi Rachel - I had to delete the resume attachment. As the board description says, we don't allow them here. However, if you want us to review your res you can either email it to me for inclusion in the resume browser, or you can upload to a remote site and post the link.

Resumes contain a lot of personal info, and this site is heavily indexed by search engines. We don't want a member or reference's contact info leaking to the web because of us. (That's also why I redacted your supervisor's name and phone above.)

A stable of stage managers or a stability of stage managers would both make for great collective nouns.

Hi All! I thought we'd try a little something to get the newer folks talking and to get them a little more familiar with how this site works. So this is the first new member scavenger hunt. I'm thinking that new hunts will be posted each month but we shall see.

How it works:
I will post something for you to search for.
Reply with a link to the post or topic that I'm talking about and, if you choose, an explanation of why you chose it.  Your link may be deactivated if you're very very new. That's OK.

The first hunt:
Find the oldest mention on SMNetwork of the AEA Showcase Code.

Hiya! FYI you might get some folks doing a double take since we've got a longterm member (and former moderator) with the username GalFriday. We'll get used to you soon, though, don't worry!

More things that have occurred to me -

Fight captains and fight call have to be more formalized than they would otherwise. Supplies for injury care would have to be more robust than otherwise the case if violence was taking place.

Under the contracts I know best, the SM couldn't serve as child-wrangler, dance captain, or paycheck distributor.

Things that would be nice, but probably impossible to enforce - mandatory assistants on large shows. Wow that would have been awesome when I was working non-equity. Nothing like SMing a new musical alone. Also, it may be downright unhealthy for some intern companies to use the maximum number of hours available for rehearsal when the interns are also doing 8-12 hrs a day in the shop, hanging lights, working box office, etc.
