Yes, it is definitely a possibility that straight sixes are not an option on the contract you are working.
What is the contract?

I work LORT B quite a lot and a typical Day One for me is as follows:

11:00am
AEA Business

11:15
Producer/Designers Meet & Greet

11:45
First ReadThrough

2:00
Lunch Provided

3:00
Producers/Designers Released
TableWork Begins

7:00
Rehearsal Ends

GREATER TUNA is a terrific show!
Get the best dressers you can and have a ball!

Perhaps a reminder to the Managing Director that rodent infestation is dealt with by the OSHA organization. Then a call to the AEA Business Rep that handles that contract and let the Union do their job!

However, one could argue that the proper jurisdiction lies with AEA and not AGMA.
Then what?

This thread seems to taking a turn towards personal style and whether or not a certain individual will honor his Union obligations or not.

There appears to be a divide that may or may not ever be agreed upon.
Perhaps we can all agree to disagree?

And howdy...

My point, and opinion, is if you are a member of one of the major performing Unions, an AFL-CIO affiliate, you may not participate in another Union's jurisdiction without benefit of that Union's contract.
It makes no difference if that particular theater is using a contract, it is YOUR Union status that makes you inelegible.

Also, what about union SMs who act in non-union film?  Or, union actors who dance in amateur Nutcrackers?  It seems like the AFL-CIO rule is more of a guideline...

If by union SM and actors above you mean Equity, then there is no conflict in the above situations.  Film is covered by SAG; dance by AGMA.  If you are not a member of SAG you may paricipate in non-SAG films; if you are not a member of AGMA you may dance in non-AGMA productions.

Conversely, just because you are a member of Equity does not make you a member in SAG or AGMA.

Great thread!

I disagree completely with the last two posts...

Let the discussions continue.

The Off-Broadway Rep is John Baron
212-869-8530 I believe is the AEA office in NY.

PM me if you'd like the email address.

Best,

Alright, if that's the case, I'm talking about the moral obligation that Union members take on when they pledge to abide by the rules of the Labor Union they belong to AFL-CIO; not working in a sister Union's jurisdiction without that Union's contract...?

Another opinion...

Being a member of the AFL-CIO, which is represented by SAG, AFTRA (no longer), AEA, AGMA, AGVA and the Italian Actors Union (I think), one union member may not work in another sister union's jurisdiction without that union's appropriate contract.

That being said, if the Opera House is not working with a contract and is completely non-union, don't the same rules of not working non-union, apply?

If you are going to have another person on headset during the show, why don't you simply switch hats with those two individuals? Perhaps the relief of not being the ASM will spur her on to being a better crew person, taking directions as opposed to giving them...?

Taking over calling a show that you didn't give birth to and didn't personally tech is a very definite challenge. For everyone. Do give yourself a break. Do practice again and again with that tape.

It has always helped me to understand what each cue is doing rather than simply execute it upon command. You are at a disadvantage here, but life goes on. As will the show.

It is also part of your department chair's job to get you to strive for personal excellence. Many people have many different ways of achieving this. Give them the benefit of the doubt and realize that's what they are doing.

Oh yeah, did I mention practice...?

Give 'em hell... GO !

The Hardline / Re: Is there a standard Percentage?
« on: Apr 04, 2008, 09:33 pm »
Don't know for sure the history but I expect something like since the allowable SM hours on most contracts are more than the actors, the salary is higher. We all know we put in hours and don't report them, perhaps this was a way to protect those who under-report...?

I know when negotiating LOA's to many agreements, we, the AEA committees, set the ratio at 20% higher for SM's and10% for the ASM.
