Most of the time I also call spot cues, but I remember one of the first tours I ever did where the ME who traveled with us called the spot cues while I called everything else.

You can say something as simple as "happy opening!" or "here's to a great run" - and leave it at that.....

Oh I hate it when I click on an answer and the system decides to change my vote!

I am encouraged by how this is being handled, especially in light of the mom's clear issues - discretely, respecting the young girl, while adults work to support. And I hope the mom doesn't find out the seriousness of this issue the hard way.....

I haven't worked there, but did you check the BTDT and internship boards? And guessing their theater has a specific name that's not Omaha Theater Company, assume have you checked under that title?

As to pay scale, you might check w the folks who work in nearby states - we have folks here who teach in several midwestern universities.

Is there a teacher or other adult you trust? You absolutely must tell someone. This girl might be truly in danger, and it sounds like she may be. And, by extension, you and the rest of the folks she hangs with may be in the line of fire. If she is this scared, keeping it a secret supports the bully and potential abuse.

Yes, this makes me nuts - I always take the person aside and tell them they have to ask for permission first - they are always shocked! Wish my theaters had that intro discussion, and in the meantime I need to find a clever way to work it into the welcome to all.

The Green Room / Re: Book Club?

this is a little off topic but...

preface this by saying I am addicted to the Korean soaps, so much so that I will be learning Korean so I can follow the show better (the translations are hysterically bad in too many cases).

There is a new show (actually a Japanese soap) about three young single girls looking for love - and one is a lighting tech in a big theater in Tokyo. And she does legitmate things, hanging lights, running the spot, etc etc - her fellow spot op (who is to be her love interest, I think), who just came back from the US....they all go to the US, it's weird... calls their spot cues together with "go" as if no one ever thought of that. So far, it's fun to see the job actually being done right (of course, it's only the 2nd episode).

TWO things:

1) there is a mistake in the quiz - but I can't get into the main site to make the correction altho I have been able to before - (there is one qq w multiple correct answers)

2) Holy Cow! Our AEA president is mentioned in today's quiz!!

One more thing - in areas where I wasn't allowed to use spike tape or marker, I have found kids' sidewalk chalk to be wonderfully useful. It comes up with water (or, in this case, vacuum) and you have access to color coordination.

side note info: Depending on the size of your house and if you use the house as a playing area, it also would be important to know if there are wheelchair patrons, and also when you have your sign language interpreted performance - in both instances making sure actors are aware..

I never take the show (top and intermission) without checking w house, and they never open the house without checking with me - and in some cases I have to notify them when we are about 5 from the end.

e-scripts are great for originals, but for published scripts, I still prefer hard copy. I make two, one for rehearsals, one a clean version that becomes the final prompt script for calling the show. I would rather have hard copy.

Introductions / Re: Hi! - NOVICE - Need Guidance

I started stage managing late - and I was even older. But it's true, age-ism definitely exists, and they will make assumptions about kids fresh out of college versus adult types. And, there are many, many more young up-and-coming SMs now than there were when I became a full-time SM. Matthew's advice is great - but if you love this work and love theater, and have a way to make a living in the meantime as you grow your reputation and skill set, don't let anything stop you.
