The Hardline / Re: John Connelly resigns as AEA exec director
« on: Dec 01, 2009, 01:07 pm »
Mr. Connolly's departure from AEA needed the grace and dignity of a jointly designed press release. The Liasion Chairs and anyone else who spread the information before the official press release were insensitive and wrong in doing so. This is a man's livelihood and reputation and deserves the respect of ALL involved.

If there is no actual callboard, where will everyone go for the baked goods?

MisLiz
Do you not confer with your SM after every show to see if there is anything that you have to add to the report?
This might be a very good way to ensure that anything she may miss that you don't, gets reported out.
I have found it to be a very good system. It also bonds you two as you can laugh (or cry) about what happened that show...

The Hardline / Re: Staged Reading--AEA Day off?

According to the NY Basic Showcase Code (available online at actorsequity.org in the Document Library under CODES)
Rule #12 REHEARSAL CONDITIONS (G) Days Off - "There shall be one full day off after every six days of rehearsal and/or performance."

Schedule the day off.
Everyone will need it.
In a situation like this, there is an awful lot of work that gets done outside of the rehearsal hours.
By all. At home.
You will all appreciate it.

IMHO...

I am assuming that you have to be a Union member to join?
Or was this mistakenly posted here on the Hardline?

My heart goes out to the actor involved...
Here's hoping President Obama's plan becomes a reality.

Could someone please explain exactly what this topic is about?
Something tells me the HARDLINE may not be the proper place for the thread...?

The Hardline / Re: Treating all actors as AEA in a showcase?
« on: Aug 31, 2009, 01:01 pm »
Unfortunately, this sounds like a recipe for disaster...
I would do everything in my power to continue to steer the director towards using the AEA guidelines.
Chances are, the non-equity members of your cast are simply future members of AEA.
Stress the humane aspect of the guidelines and the morale boost the company will get from treating everyone equally.

That being said, I agree with Heath that the producer has every right to schedule as he wants.
IF the actors don't walk and IF the venue is available and IF the producer agrees...

Keep us posted.

Matt ~
Agreed, agreed, agreed.
I only mentioned the LORT schedule as a point of reference.

The GA agreement says "Equity will provide." Equity intentionally leaves the GA agreement as brief as it is to foster it's use by first time producers. Perhaps you could steer your producer to the sight if they are interested...? Lots of good info there...

But yes, this is NOT your responsibility.

The GA agreement says that Equity will provide forms and conditions for rentals.
If you don't want to wait for that, I'd refer to the LORT costume rental guidelines in the back of the LORT book.
Most agreements have the guidelines, I just use LORT as I am most familiar with it.

My suggestion?
Call your Business Rep.
Get the real story from them and then decide what's next...

I agree with the call of "foul."
If it is one performance, or even two, then I would consider a little wiggle room...
But AEA's past practices in other areas is more than 3 days equals a week. Should have been a one week contract.

Can you let us know what the Rep ruled?

We, as Union Negotiating Committees, strive long and hard over this very issue.
Every single time.

We strive long and hard over every negotiating point.
Ask anyone who was on the most recent LORT Negotiating Team about the hours they kept.
All unpaid, all working for the greater good.

It is a great question.
It is my opinion that we have achieved much over the years.
If we hadn't, neither side would return and there would be no Union.

We keep striving for more contracts.
We keep striving to keep our members insured.
We keep praying for some kind of National Assistance with regard to Health Care.
I hope you do to...
