The Hardline / Re: Equity and Checks
« on: Oct 13, 2010, 11:01 pm »
I have always received a hard copy of any rule book I have requested, although, except for the Production Contract and the LORT books, they are no longer going to be the color-covered bound versions.  For budgetary reasons, I understand, that all hard copies of other contract's rule books, will now be sent in photocopied and stapled format, as already described.  However, if anyone is told there is NO hard copy available, and you really need one, please PM me, and I'll investigate, at least here in the Eastern Region. I believe that any member, SM or actor, should be able to get a hard copy version if they request it!

You may already have gotten an e-copy of this script, but just in case you haven't:  Since you noted that a .pdf was an acceptable format, a really good, up to date photocopy machine can "scan to email" or "scan" to create a pdf.  All  you have to do is "photocopy" your current script with altered settings. This will never give  you an editable copy, but it will give you an e-mailable script!

The Stage Manager's work is not finished when the rehearsal day is over.  Don't make plans that can't be changed!

Employment / Re: When is it OK to work for free?

Excellent, post, Matthew!  Thanks!

I don't ever discuss who is in the audience, not before, during, or after the performance.  Yes, there are actors who don't want to know, but it's mostly because I don't care.  I am not the least bit celebrity-struck, am unfamiliar with most pop-culture icons, and know that theatre people, even prominent ones, are just people like me.  All of these folk should be able to come to the theatre, enjoy it like any other audience member, and go home without being disturbed, if that's what they desire. (Plus, I don't recognize anyone, pretty much no matter how famous, unless someone else point them out to me.)

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: First time with Equity
« on: Aug 21, 2010, 08:56 am »
If it's a large cast, I'll use a sign in sheet in the Rehearsal Hall, and have the cast sign in for large group or full cast rehearsals. If not, I post it for the first time, on our first day onstage, tech. or not.  It's never too early, especially when you have a space that suffers from circular building-itis, where you and the actor might never run into each other backstage!

The Hardline / Re: SETA and Tier contracts meeting

I was unable to call in, and missed this meeting entirely.  I would be grateful to hear what I missed and catch up on the information offered. If someone posted notes here, or contacted me personally, I would be most grateful!

Then Vernon must be the "King of Talent," as he was also there, live and on the phone, to hear "M" talk about the sound at the Tony Awards.

I spoke to one of the Production Supervisors of the Tony Awards today and she she said that the sound in the theatre itself, run by a theatre sound guy, was just fine. It sounded great IN Radio City. The TV sound, she said is done by TV guys from the remote truck outside the theatre. No one inside has any control as to what hits the airwaves and what we hear at home!  I hope this clarifies it a little!

The Green Room / Re: The Stage Manager's Nightmare
« on: May 26, 2010, 05:12 pm »
Twice that I can remember, I've dreamed that I'm sitting down to call a show I've never seen, from a book I've never opened before.  But that was years ago. I can't say that I dream about theatre or work at all, not good dreams and certainly not nightmares.

I stood for three years while touring with Pilobolus Dance Theatre! And another regional theatre I've worked at, has no room in the wings to sit at the console--one must stand.

I've always wanted a treadmill to walk on while I called, actually...  I'll take photos of my booth next week when I move into it.
