Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Headset Etiquette

I actually am curently in my first show ever and I am now getting to see how the other side of the curtain feels and I would be very peeved if my sound crew decided (even though they have been my same crew for the past year and are very dear friends) to just have a little fun.

You are not respecting people right to priviacy and it is hard enough dressing room filled with everyone trying to get ready and then think about if someone might be listening in  "Just for a bit of fun"

Oh man you never know who is listening, I did Throughly Modern Millie and one of the techs girlfriend was Miss dorthy a supporting lead and we all got off of head set for intermission preset

He decided to get on and heard our projectionist (Matt) talking about how bad she was a a performer

Matt car had slashed tires and a broken windshield by the time we got out of the show that night, needless to say we replaced 2 crew members the next day

Life is hard as a SM but every once and a while a feel totally and compeltey appericated!

I am the new (and frist) PSM of a coummunity theatre and I have an contracted amount of shows that I are just soley my shows and I am to call and manage along the way without having a SM.

When we were in a staff meeting the other day the diectors were deciding what shows they wantd to do for the upcomming season and 2 o tem were fighting over Joseph and they asked if I was SMing that one myself and I am not so they both decided they did not want that show and started fighting over scarlet pimpernel becasue that is my next show!

It is a really good feeling to be wanted!!!!

I was also  offred a bribe by another director to Sm their show!

I completly agree with that you just have to be good at what you do. the only problem I have run into was the people I have the most problems with is the people my age. is that just me? 17-24yrs

also what is your stance on yelling at the cast.
I hate to yell and I have a SM that all she does is yell

I see it as a sign of inmaturity

aggreed
I came from Vega to small town utah and i was immedatilly put into a PSM becasue I was the only one willing and had a tiny bit of experience.
I have had some many just horrible ASMs here that I now perfer not to have one at all. and the only reason she was held on was beacasue it was a college show, but she will now not be conisidered as a stage manager ever again

I was callling a huge production of beauty and the beast form stage level and we had theses towers that techs had to stand in to move out and one moved to far upstage and began to tip and I tried to hold on to it and I totally go tmy hand caught inbetween the wall and this tower and I ended up breaking 4 of my fingers on my left hand. but I just opened a show tonight and I have a 2 story house that moves on and off stage with the help of 11 actors and I just know that someone is going to be hurt. darn you Oklahoma!
