Yeah same.. i can't tell between the "acting" type pauses and the "omg i forgot my line let's just stall till he/she give me my line" pause. Directors hate it when the actors look at me for their lines so we just used to do it so that they continue where they can ,with no line being fed...  and then i would write down when the actor missed a line. That worked for the 2nd run of the show for sure!

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Your book Left or right?
« on: Mar 17, 2006, 09:44 pm »
This may be a stupid question... I'm kinda new to SMing so pardon me if it's stupid. Why would you have 2 scripts. A blocking one and a calling one? What would be the point of a blocking script? Just for rehearsal purposes? Please let me know.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Definatly Depends!!
« on: Mar 13, 2006, 09:36 pm »
It mostly for me depends on the type of theatre. I usually call from backstage because the lighting and sound people were with us from the VERY beginning of the theatre company and the show and they know their stuff. I like being backstage with the teens and kids to be able to solve problems with them right away because thats most likely where the problems are going to occur. But for my school, when I SMed the way the theatre is designed you can't see from offstage L or R easily. So I would call from the booth for school shows.
Gotta Love both!!!!

Tools of the Trade / Condom reference??
« on: Mar 13, 2006, 08:58 pm »
I know there was a post earlier about condoms being used over mic packs. What was the reason again? I went to go see a show downtown Toronto the other night and my friend was in the show and I went backstage after and she told me (laughing of course) that they used condoms to cover the mic packs. What exactly does it do? I guess easier from slipping off or w/e but what are some other reasons? Thanks!!

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Backstage or In the Booth?

I would definatly choose backstage over the booth. But it all depends on the type of theatre and if from backstage you can see the stage clearly or not.

I was ASM for Bye Bye Birdie last year. It's lots of fun. We worked with kids mostly so it was very difficult. But the sets and props were easy and simple. We used risers downstage of the theatre esspecially for the big scenes. (lots of them). I'm telling you right now, the music will really get to you and by the end of your run you will never ever even THINK of listening to the music again. I had a blast I hope you do to!
