I wonder if there may have been a different outcome if the producers were asked instead of informed of the situation after everyone else decided.

But a cast vote trumps all. If you propose and they accept unanimously, then the formalities can be set aside.

This is not true.  There are specific items in which a cast may vote for one thing or another, but you can not vote for anything that violates rules.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Question For NY SM's

I like to dress up, so I do.  Just keep in mind that NY actors tend to be more on the fashion forward side, so you may feel underdressed in a tshirt and shorts.

Best of luck!

I stage managed a production of this last year.  We used a well placed / timed hazer for the smoke from the exploding garbage.  Since I was working with students, our cigarettes were actually fake ones - you blow in to them and "smoke" comes out.  With practice, it looks pretty good. We also used a zippo to get the unmistakable "click" of a lighter without actually having to have flame on stage.  Do you have any specific questions?

Once, when collecting resumes for an ASM opening, I received one that claimed they had been the PSM for a certain production.  I had been the PSM for that show, and they had been my ASM.  The producers were not impressed, and did not want to interview this person.

Bottom line, even if you are morally OK with it, you never know who may be looking at your resume.

The booth at the Cherry Lane is SR, built as a sort of loft.  There is no view to anything other than monitors.  It is even difficult, if not impossible, to see the rest of the backstage area.

The Hardline / Re: Need a doctor in NYC

If your insurance is an HMO and your primary care Dr is not in town, you will need to go to an emergency room in order to be covered.

Unfortunately, I have had some experience with this.

I have worked under a CORST contract every summer for 7 years.  I'd be happy to help, but it would probably be easiest to have a discussion - maybe we can meet in the chat room to discuss.  It can vary a great deal.  How many shows do they do?  1 or 2 week stock?  Do they use a rep plot, or are there different designs for every show?  How many SMs do they have?  Send me a PM and we can set up a time.

Employment / Re: Summer Internships

I work at Peterborough Players in Peterborough, NH every summer.  There is one non-aea SM position that can be an intern or staff, depending on experience, offers housing and small weekly pay.  You get to SM 2 children's theatre productions, and ASM 3-5 mainstage productions with 2 different AEA PSMs.  Oh, and it's a hell of a lot of fun with some great people, even though there is only 1 day off every 2 weeks.

I did a production of a show called Laughing Stock in which I said "go" 155 times in under 10 minutes including lights, sound, fog, moving scenery, and flying bats!  A reviewer even mentioned me, and that I had plenty to do!

I have seen this happen before.  And when the producers were able to get backers, the AEA members did NOT get offered the jobs.  I think you should call your union rep.  There were 3 union members, ask your rep to keep you anonymous.  The producers will never know which one of you it was.

They will not grant permission, by the way.  The only "free" videotaping ever allowed is archival, which is never allowed to leave the theatre.

I don't believe a producer who would do this is very trustworthy.  If they want to get investors, they can always arrange, through AEA, backer's auditions.

Always follow your gut!
