SMNetwork Archives / fake cigarettes for under-age actors
« on: Jan 14, 2006, 03:59 pm »
I'm looking for a realistic type of cigarette that can be smoked on stage. We've looked at the cigarretes that have the powder in them that you just puff out, but my director wants something they can actually light and smoke. The actor is underage, and obviously can't really smoke on stage, but I was wondering if anybody knows of a stage cigarette that would work. Maybe a cigarette without tobacco....

thanks in advance for any advice/help!

I'm looking for a program that will make tickets, (or some way do this on Microsoft word, excel, or something like that) that will number tickets for us..In the past our highschool has made the tickets on word, and then cut them out and perforated them by hand. We've never tried numbering them because we would have to print sheets of tickets off seperately (instead of pushing start on the copy machine :D )
Are there any programs out there that will do that? Or is there some key that will do that for us? we were hoping we could get the number on both the main part of ticket and the stub of the ticket

Thank you in advance for any help!

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Backstage or In the Booth?
« on: Dec 29, 2005, 06:40 pm »
heheheh. The picture of stage management in the future... :D

"Need a job that you can work from home? well then stage management is right for you! everything is recorded live and transfered straight to your home, all the actors are in simulations (wherever they may be) so all can attend rehearsals. no need for anybody to do anything in person anymore..in fact audiences won't see any live performances because the shows use simulations for the actors to be there too! so it will look like everybody is there, but really all the audience is seeing is people being broadcast.
sounds remarkably like TV.....heheheheh......
anyways. sorry totally off topic..... 8O

I agree, It's avery fine line between friend and SM. I'm a highschool stage manager, so all my cast members are my peers. It's always hard to have my best friend in the cast, especially when she's fooling off and I have to "discipline" her. I'm lucky tho, because she's been in theatre long enough that she understands. I just hate making enemies. I have to do it, but I don't like it. There's always going to be someone who hates us, aye

mmmm... I thought about it, but my scanner is really bad.. I think I'll check and see if anyone I know has a nice scanner that won't turn things strange colors...thanks for the idea!

I already put this on the general board but I haven't gotten anything so I thought I'd try this one.

okay...so I really dislike the format that Bye Bye Birdie is in, and I was wondering if anybody has ever done this show and typed up the script for their use. If so can I have it....I'm a slow typist and I don't trust myself to type it up without mistakes. IF THERE IS ANY WAY I CAN GET AHOLD OF A DIFFERENT VERSION IT WOULD MAKE ME VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY HAPPY! I would like to paste the music into the script and if it's typed up somewhere out there that would work reall well.
^^^^^EXTREMELY DESPERATE!!!!!!!!!

Also, if anybody has any words of advice or suggestions for the show, I would love to hear them. I'm halfway done with plots, the show is cast, and we start rehearsals in 2 1/2 weeks.

Broadway Christmas Returns!!!!
it's a cabaret type thing, with a cast of 16.
The show is made up of various Broadway songs, some christmas oriented, some not, and a few random songs. The actors also sing the song from a muppet christmas carol. It's a great family type show and it runs this weekend, weds. to sat (with a matinee on saturday) at EOU(eastern oregon university) it's going to be great.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Your book Left or right?
« on: Nov 07, 2005, 09:34 pm »
okay then...here's a question:

would it work to make your call script double sided (as in text on both sides of the script)? This is assuming that it is a call script only (no blocking, just cue stuff) If all you have to do is call cues and everything is automatic, (aka you don't have to say bring up cue 3, which is channels such and such at such and such levels..)

I guess the question is do you really need a whole page for your cues? I like all that open space for blocking purposes, but that many page turns in a show seems like it would get pretty annoying. The way I wrote my cues for the last  show I did, I had enough room in my extra big margins to do everything...

what do you guys think?

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Your book Left or right?
« on: Nov 06, 2005, 10:33 pm »
Quote from: "erin"
I'm that freaky left-hander who does everything backwards.

In rehearsals, i keep script on the right of the binder with blocking on the left, so as not to have to write over the ring.  My calling script has script on the left, with all the cues in the left margin.   I keep my rehearsal/show reports on the table, left of my book and cue lights on the right.

I've tried many times to convert to having my book the "right" way, but my addled mind is too set from a lifetime of starting from the back of the notebook.  It's often a source of consternation to other sm's (and directors, and actors) trying to consult my notes when i'm out of the room :)

that's okay..I think the main reason most of us have text on the left and blocking on the right is because the majority of us are right handed..(aka it's easier to write on the right side)...so it stands to reason if you are lefthanded, it would be easiest for you to do it the opposite way.
