On my resume, when i worked at a certain summer stock theatre that I know you are familiar with, I was instructed to list on my resume my credits as Stage Manager, because that is what i did.  I had never looked at it from the other side of the table. Never any intention to be dishonest here.

oh i completely agree with you.... the stage management is something that is a new development.... i dont know how long ago if you were here... but Donald Fox is no longer employed by BUT, due to the fact that he offers nothing to students.  But we have a large staff of design faculty now, but i have heard stories from the past.

I have had alot of the same problems, but only because I type all of my scripts in pre production because its a great way for me to know the show very well.  But i do have the same formatting issues, and i have been told that since this is such a new wave in the theatre and in stage management, digital scripts and such, that thier is no program in existence YET, but i would love someone to make a great one, i would buy it!

Very Very Very True.

My mantra with stage management has always been our job is to point out the problems, not necessarily to solve them, because that is not our job, but to direct the problem to someone who can.

This is not always possible, granted, but we can try.

Just do the best that ya can!

first of all remember that you cant take it personally.

I would have set him down, and if that did not work, i would let your mentor know - in the university setting and I would also let the producer (Chair of the Department) know and the Production Manager.

Um.... i would disagree.... if you are looking for education in Tech theatre then i would DEFINITELY look into Baylor University.

i did this recently with my production of Annie Get Your Gun at Baylor University . It worked very well!  I got the example from Matthew Shiner.

Thanks,

The Hardline / Should I start EMC?
« on: Mar 18, 2006, 01:26 am »
Meg,

I am kind of in the same position, i have accepted a position with the Maine State Musical Theatre for the summer and will qualify for EMC, i have been recommended by some very reputable and experience sources, that if you are wondering if you are ready for equity, you most likely are.  If you dont have doubts about your abilities, then why would otheres?

Hope this helps.

John

Do any of you let your board ops do other things in the booth?  Play computer games, read, text message, do crossword puzzles, listen to music?  I have two board ops who pay no attention right now, and I'm not sure whether I should fight and deal with boredom, or get used to being the only one paying attention.  Help a sister out!

Hmm... not a shocker but being in University theatre right now, i have the same problem but usually it is doing homework instead.  Just let them know that as long as it does not hinder the show, and that maintaining the show is your job and you are to make sure they are doing thiers.
