With growing concussion concerns, Goliath's mother wouldn't let him play outside without wearing one of these.

This must be at least a 20 gallon. And we all know bigger is better.

Everyone that wears blacks will match. None of this "I've washed the shirt too many times and it's a faded black" or "My black pants look dark blue under a clip light".
Nope. Perfect black all the time.

And there is not a single white sock to be found......ANYWHERE.

I'm happy everyone is looking to their environment around them, but you missed all the really great stuff you get as the SM!

-Paycheck is over the Living wage. You won't have to manipulate or take short cuts when making your weekly/monthly budgets.

-Health insurance from the moment you're hired and not 12 weeks down the road.

-There is no fighting or reminding of the front office you are owed overtime. They simply know it and pay it happily.

There is no such thing as bad publicity and if the AD wants to drag his company and cast through the mud to get it he has every right.

He just may never win the community back for taking them to task. He also should probably not let people know he only cares about the journey and not the final product he makes people pay to see. If that's the case, maybe he should just pay people to rehearse and never perform because the journey is all that counts.

It's not that it's not intended for that use....it just means that no one stocks them because it's such a rare application. You should be fine so long as you do know how to wire an XLR connector.

The 4 Pin XLR/DMX is what throws the wrench in the works. I found 5 Pin to 1/4 and 1/8. I found 3 Pin to 1/4 and 1/8. But by goodness golly that elusive 4 Pin would not be captured.

I checked with all my vendors to see if I could point you in the correct direction, but by golly if I can't find someone who does that. 4 Pin is not a popular configuration for cable makers, and going down to 1/4 or 1/8 from there is apparently even more uncommon.

Now that being said, I did find this place: http://apuresound.com/cables.html and they have exactly what you're looking for it's just....like...$100...so that's the buying option.

I'm pretty sure you'd be able to build it for far less, but I'm not sure how the 4 pin down to the audio adapters works.

Just to make sure, you're talking a female XLR connection to male 1/4 or 1/8 jack correct?

Congrats!

The best advice I got about moving to a new city was this- You need three things before you move to a new city: A Job, a place to sleep and a friend. If you have all 3, do it! If you have 2, you can still do it but you'll probably need more money than you think. If you only have one...hold off for a little bit longer.

Then the only real good advice I can give: Don't listen to advice. Things that worked for me won't necessarily work for you. ;)

Good luck!

I remember years ago in one of those Real Life caught on tape shows on Fox a man playing Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar nearly killing himself while hanging from...I wanna say they gave him airline cable or some ridiculous crap like that....Thankfully in that case the other actors realized it very quickly, and so did the crew. They were able to save him.

What a horrible story. I can't even imagine letting anyone perform an onstage hanging without having someone standing by to assist if something went wrong. It's just not worth it no matter how experienced you are.

No one should die for their art.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Invisible spikes

Might it be possible to use white spike tape and write something on it? It wouldn't be necessarily as intrusive as glow tape, and you might be able to do something small enough that it's not visible to the audience but is visible to the cast. If blackouts are a concern obviously this won't work. If you're just trying to provide a visual reference from step to step it might work.

You might also look into grip tape (it can come in white, or basically a variety of grip tape that glows like glow tape too) or stair noses (if your staircase is built to accept them). Idea being that if you change the texture underfoot, the cast will know they are reaching the edge of the tread.

Tools of the Trade / Re: Clear-Com Headsets
« on: Apr 13, 2012, 09:11 am »
I realize that this thread was dedicated to a different headset, but I didn't think this needed to end up in it's own thread.

Clear Com debuted their new headset design at the NAB conference in Vegas. The CC-300 and CC-400. It looks similar to the old chunk headset we've all grown to despise (we all know the Clear Com Headache!), but this is adjustable and looks far more comfortable. But that in and of itself isn't enough that I'd want to post about it here.

The most "bitchin'" feature (as it were): How many times have you wished (oh wished!) that when you pushed your mic up to your forehead to talk to someone backstage or in the house during tech that your mic would just turn off so no one else hears the conversation.....Clear Com heard your prayers! Push the Mic up (even when your mic is locked on) and it will mute. Bring it back down: Unmute.

That, to me, is a really awesome user friendly feature.

Here's a link to the article my current company tweeted out about it: http://blog.broadcastengineering.com/briefingroom/2012/04/12/clear-com-introduces-new-cc-300-and-cc-400-headsets-at-the-2012-nab-show/
