Quick question - the app won't run on iPhone 4 in the UK, as the profile is not valid. Any suggestions for a workaround?

Employment / Re: Working Outside the States

I believe that the two aren't connected at all. However, if you are Equity in the US it may go some way to proving you are a professional, and vice versa.

Joining the Stage Management Association is a good first step, as is subscribing to The Stage newspaper. Sending CVs to HoDs at various theatres is one way to getting dep work on a long-running show, another foot in the door.

Anyone can join Equity in the UK, you just need to "supply evidence to prove that you are working as a paid professional in the entertainment industry". www.equity.org.uk

Where are you hoping to work? Musicals/Opera/Theatre, London?

It's a pretty fun game!  (though clearly not an IATSE show lol)

Welcome to the UK!

Have you tried buying a different box of batteries/a different brand? I once ended up with a dud batch that did the same thing, or simply started out brand new with one bar.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: call times

I believe it came about in the first company I DSM'd for because the Orchestra were quite unreliable about being in the pit on time, meaning  we went up late. The 1st and 2nd calls were to give them their own Five, in effect.

For an opera at 7:30, I call:

6.55 - Half
7.10 - Quarter
7.20 - Five
7.23 - 1st Orchestra
7.25 - Beginners and 2nd Orchestra
7.28 - Conductor

I've never heard the Ten being called!

Stage Management: Other / Re: My first ballet gig!

Thanks for the help - the flash cards are a great idea! This is this production's 21st year, but the first in this venue (I don't think that will make too much difference)

This is a UK company, so it won't be IATSE - however, there is a large crew, so I will be just working on props and entrances.

What are Supernumeraries? We probably have the same things over here, just under a different name.

Because of the large numbers of children involved, there will be separate wranglers - plus, I'm not CRB checked by this company, so I can't be placed in a position of responsibility with children (from the limited understanding I have of this part of British law).

I'm catching up with the rest of the team when they are open in the first venue, so I'll ask about responsibilities then.

Hi everyone,

I've been offered my first bit of ballet work - ASM for a well-known company's Nutcracker. I've seen the show before, I know the score well - What else should I do to prepare?

Thanks,
Chris

Stage Management: Other / Re: Spiking a Dance Floor
« on: Aug 19, 2011, 07:57 pm »
I'm stage managing a musical theatre workshop at school and I need to tape down numbers so that they are able to find center. But I know there was a rule about not using spike tape on a dance floor, but I cant remember what tape you're supposed to use. Help?

Thanks!

Can I ask why? I often use LX (PVC) tape instead of spike tape, but I've never had a problem using it on dance floors.
