When I shadowed at Jersey Boys a few years ago, the SM forgot the cue the band in at the top of the show! They started, and all was fine and probably unnoticeable to the audience, but I remember a little relief that even big-time SMs make mistakes.

There's a fun little housewares company called Fred that does lots of traditional items in nontraditional materials...not sure if they'd have what you're looking for, but a quick google pulls up their catalog site:
http://worldwidefred.com/fredproducts.htm

I also wonder if Etsy would be helpful.

I know that in the online database, the whole thing is registered under my AEA name, but for shows I did previously, it has my actual name in parentheses "(as Liz Richards)."

Stage Management: Other / Re: First time on a devised show

One thing I found helpful is to develop a skeleton of absolutes...if you can get a sequence that MUST happen a certain way, props that must be incorporated, even just "actor a needs to be here by this point" etc...and a "storyline" as much as you can. I basically like to get any sort of structure I can get from the beginning. :)

All NYC Fringe shows, and the closing night party, have been canceled for Sunday.

I'd go for the first once-over and giving suggestions, bouncing ideas off, etc...if it becomes more consistent than that- meeting multiple times, helping with planning, etc- then I'd discuss some sort of fee.

Next month I'll actually be getting my first tattoo, the Penguin Books logo. I've been an avid reader since I was little, and also have a fondness for penguins. :) I am still undecided if I'll be getting it black and white or with the red background inside the circle (the logo reserved for plays). It'll be going on the side of my hip, like the spine of a book.

I'm confused, have you been offered Job #2, or are you thinking of applying for it?

Tools of the Trade / Doodle?

Has anyone here used Doodle?

www.doodle.com

The next director I'll be working with has stated it's her preferred method of scheduling...so far it looks pretty straightforward. But if anyone has any tips, tricks, or hints it'd be much appreciated.

Mine have my name, phone number, website and email address. I've had the same style since I was in college, but changed it to my AEA name once I joined.

Coincidentally, last night after finishing tech, a lighting designer I've done a few shows with said "You're really a tech SM. Thanks for that." So maybe I have to amend my previous statement...

The boys (and yes, it was all-male- 22 of them!) on a recent show I sm'ed called me Wendy, because I was looking out for my Lost Boys. I'm probably a mama SM- looking out for the best solution for everyone (cast and crew), 3 steps ahead or so, making sure everyone has what they need and then some, but laying down the law and being tough when I need to.

(With this show in particular, I was doing all my regular duties PLUS giving haircuts, putting initials in jockstraps (!), sewing errant buttons, etc. I DEFINITELY felt like I was leading the Lost Boys!)
