Tools of the Trade / Re: SM Software
« on: Sep 27, 2007, 04:55 pm »
Sarah not sure I agree with you here!  :P

10 years ago cell phones would never replace land lines and email would never replace snail mail.  Both are well on their way!  It's only a matter of time before someone is able to create an effective SM package.

Cell phones were useless during 9/11 -- only landlines were working.  Just saying...

And landlines are useless during a hurricane -- only cell phones work when phone lines go down.  Just saying...

There is a give and take with any technology.
Until a natural gas line ruptures and the gennys die that is.

I would pay $80 for a good pdf creator alone.

Absolutely.
A 90 year Vaudeville house can't be without a ghost.
Legend has it that a pregnant woman roams the halls at night looking for someone.
Nobody really remembers who she was looking for.
At one time there was even a sculpture of her hanging on a wall in the house.

I have heard all sorts of weird things late at night, and felt that "rushing air" sensation.

Integrated video monitoring software.

I want OSX obviously, but it will sell much better as a Windows program.
Parallels is only like $80 anyway.

I don't want you taking my job, so do lights.

The Hardline / Re: AEA Teachers
« on: Sep 12, 2007, 04:56 pm »
I have a question that I'm not sure how to word.  Basically-- what does equity have to say about its members teaching?  In other words, I were have my equity card and then I get a job as a PSM / Stage Management teacher at a university is it scabbing if I SM shows there?

Thanks for your insights. :)
This could get complicated, as you would possibly be eligible for membership in an educator's union.
Some of them are AFL-CIO affiliated, as is AEA.
That's a great "thinker".

"If this university was hogwarts, we would be the magic."
That's what it's all about:
We've got magic to do........ Just for you
We've got miracle plays to play
We've got parts to perform.... Hearts to warm
Kings and things to take by storm
As we go along our way

but I swear, if I hear Bop to the Top one more time, I'll go nuts.
Oh no, you've done it now.
I was this close(denotes short distance with thumb and forefinger) to forgetting that song.

The Hardline / Re: Guest Artist Agreements
« on: Sep 05, 2007, 11:20 pm »
So, after speaking with the LA Business Rep I have discovered that the definition of an "out-of-town" actor is clearly spelled out in the Guest Artist Guidelines and not the actual rulebook itself. This document is also available online in the AEA Document Library. The LA Rep explains to anyone asking that "any actor whose home address is 50 miles or greater from the theatre" is defined as "out-of-town".
Would home address be place of primary residence or mailing address?

I figure it's silly not to make use of the technology that's available.  No it may not be the standard but standards can change.

Indeed.  20 years ago cell phones weren't standard, look where we are today.
The attached photo gives a bit of a perspective on that topic:
"The first quarter-century of Motorola handsets illustrates the cell phone’s evolution from the 1973 prototype to a 1998 model that seemed impossibly tiny at the time."
