Okay, so I'm SMing Midsummer right now, and the way our space works there is a booth back of house, but with the way the space is set up, I can't see half the stage, so I'm running from a monitor. I've never done that before and a little nervous.  Is there any lag time on the monitor? And how well do you actually see from it?  I'm sure it depends on the quality of the monitor...  Any suggestions, comments would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Well your best book would be good to bring, any programs that you have of shows you've done, pictures of the shows... etc.

For schools I am currently a BA theatre Studies major with an emphasis in Stage Management.  There are also degrees for stage management.  I'm glad I went the General theatre degree because I was able to focus on an area, and still Stage Manage a lot. I also learned a lot of skills that help me talk to other departments.  It's not entirely a bad thing.

Hope this helps

My weeklys were long like that too, but only because the director wanted multiple rehearsals so they ended up being 2 soemtiems 3 pages.  But it was smaller font.    But I agree that the heading doesn't need to be so big.

Here are a sound cue sheet from the show im working on now,
and the cue sheet I created for a ballet last spring....  It's combining the sheets I got from the designers together.

Hope this helps.

My first show was Seascape by Edward Albee that has 4 actors, however we had the time slot that allowed way too much rehearsal for the small show, so we ended up working alittle at the beginning for the show before ours.  It was fun never the less. I love the director, she and i are still close.  But that was at my high school

I go here... its been... difficult. It's really hard when I'm going into tech tomorrow for a show that's 2 weeks behind in scenery, and has only done 2 full run-thrus (2 weeks ago)...  but... I am safe and are my friends but its scary and its shocking and surprising.

Thanks for your prayers for the family of NIU

Employment / Work Samples for Applications

As an SM what would include in work samples?  Rehearsal Reports, a scene of the script?  what? I dont know what to include?

Yeah, my theatres thats I've been working with have tech tables, and are a big pain in the ass! But I also have my ASM on book and ive come up with a handy little system for line notes, because if the actors dont have the note in their little hands, they forget them... so.. I've got message book with carbon copies of all the line notes, and have rearranged them for myself. The actors love it!  They also have to look up what they missed.

Sorry went on a tangent, but the point is. I use tech tables. BLAH!

I'm not sure if I'm posting this to the right location, but, I need some advice.  I am stage managing A Midsummer Night's Dream at my university at the moment, and I'm currently in the process of making a tentative rehearsal schedule, however we are having multiple rehearsals at the same time, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to make this scheduling process easier with a cast of 22.  I feel like it's going to take absolutely forever!   The director and I sat down and figured out how long each french scene would take to initially block it, once we finish the text work. But I'm now stuck on figuring out what to do now.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! ??? ???

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: PSMing vs. ASMing
« on: Sep 02, 2007, 12:31 pm »
Maybe its just my bad luck with ASMs in the shows I've done, but I like PSMing for calling the show, though in some ads for ASMs I've read that they call the show.  I suppose the title and job descriptions may change with the production or the company.  I've been both ASM and PSM, and I enjoy being a PSM more.  Not because as I was ASMig I was bored and didn't have work to do, I would like to experience a show with an ASM who knows how to be an ASM and I don't have to babysit them along with my cast and crew.. Though everyone is adults I'm working with... this is a touchy subject I feel for everyone.

I just finished a musical, and had wonderful choreographers who wrote everything out by the measure!  I would normally use that and then where people enter and exit, etc.  Usually the choreographer is at the major rehearsals before opening to help, because of the look of their moves, etc.  So it helps if you can use the score and what pertains especially for you to communicate that with the designers.  Lighting in particular

Oh I know.  and I know hes sexist cause the director who has worked with him before knows this.  Said you probably wont get anything from him....

JUST Frustrating! I mean common get over yourself!

So, I'm SMing Annie Get Your Gun currently and the director hired a scenic designer who will not take authority from females at all!  He wont respond to any of my emails or anything that I ask in terms of paperwork, I wont get.  We open in 3 weeks and I still don't have a ground plan!  Does anyone have any suggestions on dealing with this situation.  I am not looking forward to tech when I will have to deal with him more, but so far the director has been communicating with him for me, though it is my job to do so.  I feel bad but I don't know what else to do.  HELP!

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Creating Paperwork
« on: Jun 28, 2007, 06:06 pm »
Well, I've worked with ASMs who shouldn't be SMing, and so I did all the paperwork myself, even accidently stepping on someones toes by accident once.  But we didn't really have a sound designer or anyone to organize the sound until a faculty member jumped in to set up the sound system.  It wasn't a pretty conversation that day when I handed him the small que sheet for sound.  He had never gone to a rehearsal or production meeting.  But other places I was given the information.  I usually will make my own just in case.  It's a safe bet, the information will be as accurate as possible, and make sure there isnt a cue or something specific that is needed by the director that the designers or someone missed.  I guess it's my OCD, who knows.
