I was doing a show where the director wouldnt let us get on with the tech so the LD decided to go extrmely slowly which didnt help matters in the end. communication wasnt easy because the director kept taking his headset off

the best use for gaffer tapre is shutting up actors who are too full of themselves i think

If it is specifically ballet the n definetly corps (corps de ballet) but for other dance i normally use group, unless it is part of a musical when i use chorus

I tend to go with "sound" but i always go with what the operator is happy with if he takes a perticular dislike to "Sound Q ..." then i will change, I had one guy who like "SX Q" which was a nightmare

I think it depends on the cast and the production personally i like to bond as much as possible with the cast but sometimes the games just get on my nerves a bit i find another way tosaty busy

I agree that backstage is the best option in your case, it sounds like a nice setup and you will be better place in case of a problem

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Tech Advice

for any show that you call i'd say that the most impotant thing is not to snowball if there is a glitch. I currently starting on epsom downs, which we're doing in the round as well I may well try out sitting where i will cue on the night. Thanks

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Dressing For The Part?
« on: Feb 23, 2007, 06:25 pm »
in rehersal rooms i normally have jeans and a shirt on, sometimes i have black trousers, but i would place my dress code in the smart casual area. When it comes to techs and in theatre work i spend most of the time in black combats, work boots and black top, (beacause up until this year i did most of the rigging for the productions i was involved in) I've never had complaints but then again i have done hardly anything proffesional, just a few dance works.

the last alladin production i did we had a medium sized jib with 3 stage hands manuvering it, we had some dry ice but mostly just had lights shining into the audience in front of the jib. I can't remember how expensive it was.

A few weeks back i was asked to be a stage hand a college production, so i turned up on the final rehersal before the tech and the director tells me that i am cueing the show! I was absolutley shocked that she had left it until the last minute to arrane this! I think if your faced with situations like yours and mine you just ahve to keep your chin up and do the best you can. If you can keep a level head and stay pleasant, i've found it rubs off on other people and the mood lightens

I work on dance shows a lot and am currently studying dance A level so end to place laban notation in my script for complex dance works, other wise i try to just find the vital movement sections or use music cues to find my way.
