The Hardline / Re: Copyright laws

MTI is a publishing house.  I work for a community theatre and the easiest answer to any recording is a NO across the board no exemptions.  We have so many different directors come through our doors, some want copies and some say absolutely not.  So we play it safe and just say No to everyone.

Hi,  The Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn London is a great theatre.  They have a website so you can see what they are doing.  It is sometimes used as a movie theatre as well.  If you like Shakespeare and have the time I suggestion The Globe.  You don't necessarily have to see a production but they have a neat museum.  Camden Market is also interesting place to walk around and of course there is Carnby Street but I don't think it has the same pull as it used to.  I suggested you look into Day passes for the subway and buses cos travelling around if you are jumping from place to place gets very extravagant.  Google London Transport and it will bring up a whole slew of choices.  Good luck I am envious I hope you have a great time.  I am a Londoner.

Thank you for your idea.  I had thought about paper mache but it needs to look soft and I think it might give the look of being hard.  Although when something is dead it goes into rigormortis (sp).  I will certainly try and play with the idea.  I love getting messy.

I feel your pain.  I have worked with a few demon directors myself.  I was called in to SM a show two weeks prior to the show going up.  It was a music variety show and there were individual bands and singers.  They had all been rehearsing at different venues at different times and I was not able to see the entire show from start to finish before we went up.  To make matters worse when we did have a tech rehearsal (the only one we had) which included moving platforms for a 17 piece band quietly behind curtains while another act was going on in front of the curtains in 5 mins the director would not let me call the shots.  Also, I wanted to run a rehearsal from the end to the beginning so we were ready to start the show in the right spot. The Director would not let me. This rehearsal took place the morning of the actual show.   OK are you all with me so far...... cos it gets worse......  The poor front of house staff were going nuts because when I wanted to end the rehearsal 15 minutes prior to the show going up so we could let this "older" audience in the Director told me I couldn't.  The show started 30 minutes late and ran 1 hour and 30 minutes longer than it should have.  The Director yelled at me the entire time I was calling the show.  My only saving grace was that (no I didn't take to drink though it was tempting) was the fact that we only had to do one show.  It was a total disaster and I know we can't always choose the directors we work with but I sure as heck won't be working for that one anytime soon.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / PROPS: The Seagull
« on: Mar 09, 2007, 10:36 am »
OK, so I posted a question about The Seagull attaching it to another topic...... whoops..... it is early in the morning.  So here's my problem.  I usually Stage Manage but have been asked to do props for Chekov's The Seagull.  I have to create a dead seagull...... my idea is to get a large white sock, form it, stuff it and then add feathers to the outside.   Does anyone have any other ideas.  The seagull has to be dragged across the stage.  Love to have some suggestions.  I also have to purchase a stuffed seagull.  Does anyone have any sources.  Thank you.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Dealing with stress
« on: Feb 09, 2007, 02:40 pm »
I had to agree with everyones suggestions on destressing.  I too have a habit of over extending.  But, I do try and take about 30 minutes in my day to just do nothing for anyone except myself.  Even if it is a cup of tea/coffee and a magazine.  I am also a student, work at a theatre, SM'ing two shows and doing props for another show albeit the show i am doing props for doesn't go into rehearsal until March but I am getting ahead with the props so I don't come unstuck later on.  I also have a husband and family so that is added stress in itself.  I have promised myself that in May when the school year ends I am taking two weeks to do nothing.  Well that's my goal at this time.  Who knows, that might change! Take care of yourself, eat healthily, drink plenty of water and get at least 7 hours sleep (I know that's tough).  I also take power naps.  No more than 30 minutes.  Even if I have to go and park my car somewhere safe and take a pillow and blanket with me. Lock the doors of course.  OK that is my two cents worth.  Good luck.
