I'm sure they have something to say about this...

Printers will all have the same power sources and have the same ink, they will have scheduled maintenance, they will work with any computer and not need new drivers installed, and they will be leased so they can be replaced when the technology improves.

I do think there are some people out there who do need to take a stab at the unpaid internship, see what it is like, and take what good they can away from it. I can attest that I am a harder worker and have more of a passion for good theatre with good workers. I would not have had that if I hadn't worked at my unpaid internship for a summer.

Well, I've only done paid internships (hourly with overtime) and I can't say that I would be a harder worker if they had been unpaid, namely because we could be worked to death. So there is no reason why people should be unpaid, you can learn just as much, work as hard, AND get paid.

I'd agree babens, except that those professions are not (generally) seen by the public to be a band of curiosities, riff-raff and ne'er-do-wells who don't 'really' work and only live for their own self-gratification.

Agreed, general audiences know that being a doctor, lawyer, or police officer in real life is not that fun, especially when they see the cops that have to guard grocery stores or doctors at Patient First, but they really have no idea how our job works outside of what they see in this show, honestly this is also not good for younger people who are thinking about going into theatre either, I remember how I "thought" everything was going to be as I got older and boy was I wrong but this show just reestablishes all of those ideas.

I personally like the stage managers of "Heaven on Earth" who panicked, clearly let a drugged performer (in a minor role) on stage, If they somehow didn't know when they found her still did nothing when they saw she was being ridiculous on stage, and then let random people who they have never seen backstage during the show.

Thinking you are going to need to write a lot of notes for a meeting and setting up an entire page, only to write one thing on it the entire time...

LOVE the original music and songs!
LOVE the cameos by broadway performers!
LOVE the idea!
And I will probably watch it the entire run but...

I mean I could even deal with the soap opera elements if they weren't so ridiculous like the son who never seems to go to school.

Kat McPhee while very talented is not convincing enough to make me believe she would ever have the lead, she sort of makes me miss Lea Michele's expressiveness.

The SM is pathetic...like the new pages being "thrown in the air" to letting her leave rehearsal for a few...HOURS?! really?

I know I will watch it though :)

I so wanted to call places at half hour, but the stampede/trampling of performers, just wasnt worth it...but man it would have been funny.

Tracy Jordan: My genius will not be denied. I'm like Mozart. and you're like that guy who was always jealous of Mozart.
Frank Rossitano: Salieri?
Tracy Jordan: No thank you. I already ate.

The list from my current gig would be ridiculous:

Basically hanging out with 50 naked people every night. Looking for nipple covers, dodging flying bras, cleaning giant blue dildos, these are just a few of my tasks...

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: No Director Present
« on: Mar 10, 2012, 06:37 pm »
I had the same exact situation about a year ago.

Here's what I would do schedule one meeting before rehearsals  with the actors and director on skype or speakerphone if you can that, way you can give them all the info they need they can ask her questions and you can get everything in at the same time.

Before that schedule in advance a good thorough  chat with the director and get stuff out of the way. You can try to predict what people will ask/ answer questions they have already asked or want to know that way you won't have to "get asked, then ask her, then wait for her response, then respond to the person."

It's just like when you get a million little emails and you could answer them as they came in but sometimes it is just less overwhelming to sit down and answer all of them at the same time when you can actually focus on them. If you get her to go into the mindset of answering question and communicating with you it will be much easier to get the info you need.
