Employment / Re: Salary Requirements
« on: Jan 06, 2013, 10:26 pm »
The easiest way to try to circumvent this ridiculous question is actually simple: take what your highest rate may have been as a day player or on smaller contracts and multiply it out to a yearly salary.

So lets say you were once paid $600 a week for one show and that salary worked well for you. Multiply it out for a year, while also figuring out general taxes like planetmike said.

Keeping in mind the golden rule that your rent should be covered by a week/two weeks of pay is also a guideline I used. Best of luck! :)

December Madness I: 2012 / Re: December Madness!

See?? The electoral college is to blame! Laptop won the popular vote but because of gerrymandered districts, paper comes out with a win!!!

The Supreme Court will hear of this!

If we are stranded on a desert island, we will need to make a big SOS sign.  Pretty hard to do with a laptop unless you can make a generator out of coconuts...

Well that is just silly. Now if you were stage managing a show on a desert island it would make sense.

And obviously you can make a generator out of coconuts. The Professor did that on day one on Gilligan's Island.

Do we have tiebreakers set up for this tournament?

I (temporarily) rescind my video post.....

Booyah!

If laptop loses, I expect to see a decrease in activity as people snail mail their posts to Kay

128
When was the last time you got a laptop cut? Exactly.

You can't make the assumption that someone has a pc vs a laptop. The question is which sm tool is superior: paper or laptop. Desktops do not factor in. Laptops are clearly the winner here.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Stair unit transitions
« on: Dec 28, 2012, 09:16 am »
If it's something you're thinking about covering with Duv anyway, why not try something like flash cards with the pictures of positions. Then the actor only need remember a number (like I'm moving stairs to position 4, or 15 and find the appropriate card).

No page turning, cards are always present and laid out so they can see them, and if they're covered with Duv, no harm no foul.

Stage Management: Other / Re: Radio plays
« on: Dec 27, 2012, 04:12 pm »
Like a live Radio Play? Is it staged as if it were a Radio play?

I produce a podcast on a near weekly basis but it's basically just an analysis podcast (think of it like the Talking Dead airing after the Walking Dead except I was podcasting about zombies before they were talking about them...).

So what else can you tell us about the production?

again, I have absolutely run shows without headsets. I MUST have my paper. Pads, sticky notes, run sheets, whatever - all ahead for paper!

This is an old play by now. Headset has it on tape and is prepared for it.

133
I'm just going to say it: y'all are afraid to embrace paperless stage management.

I think next year (if there is a next year tournament) paper needs to be clarified. I'd wager a lot of people are encompassing all paper including scripts. It's going to be hard to battle that. If we specify type (printer paper, loose leaf etc) it might make for more interesting match ups.

134
Multi tool would have a fighting chance here.

This is what you get.

You keep using this word... Socialist.... I do not think that word means what you think it means...

I'm using what I learned from watching the election coverage and applying them here. And stop trying to stifle me just because I'm part of the 47%!

Ah. Television. Well....Carry on then!
