Trying to erase notes but not being able to get it totally clean. OR when the eraser leaves a pink smudge instead!

I keep mine pretty simple: most recent (recognizable) credit, other favorite/well-known credits, and union membership.

Perfect. PM me your email address.

Dallas, if you're interested, I can put you in touch with some folks who have guidelines etc for this. They're currently working with The Lion King to make some tour stops autism-friendly performances as well.

Employment / Transitioning to TV/Film?
« on: Apr 13, 2012, 05:56 pm »
I'd never really thought about it before, but I have quite a few friends working in TV/film production who have encouraged me to try it because they think I'd be good at it. Specifically, as a PA, extras wrangler, or second-second. One of my friends is helping me get a day or two on her show as a PA just to try it out and see if I like it, but have any of you worked on jobs like this? Suggestions for where to start and how to get in? Thoughts?

Special skills, I think, are the "above and beyond" skills, or the things not every stage manager has experience with. For example, I have child and animal wrangling experience, plus extensive work with special-needs children and adults through managing a Special Olympics Team USA in Italy. I also have a lot of blood/SFX experience...useful for some shows AND a good conversation starter.

And "award-winning baker" because it's true, and people alllllways ask.  ;)

I've been watching on and off since it started, but I believe a few weeks ago the SM let Karen leave rehearsal early for the day, no reason given? REALLY?

Tools of the Trade / Re: Running sound cues in rehearsal
« on: Apr 05, 2012, 11:24 pm »
I encountered this on a recent show as well...I have a basic knowledge of Qlab and could play with some effects (crossfading etc) so the director could see if that's what he really wanted, but then would pass the note along to the sound designer. However, he'd often approach me during previews and ask me to create/mix new cues on the fly. I think being from a more computer-savvy generation, my director just assumed I'd have no problem doing it. A reminder that "I'm the stage manager, not the sound designer, unless you'd like to pay me for that too! :)" was helpful.

Is it just me or does this read like a big ol' ad?

There's also a Harry Potter show, Potted Potter, slated to open in a couple weeks in NYC.

So is it actually possible that NOTHING is off-limits? I feel like even an Angry Birds musical would stand a chance at this point.

You know, I was having a discussion with my ASM last night about this...basically that the premise for most musicals sound pretty silly. A Titanic musical? Oh, ok. Jerry Springer? CATS?!

I'd be worried about a musical adaptation of Jersey Shore, mainly for the all-club-music cast album.

Employment / Re: Career Goals

I make a plan every year, based on the year before and what seems like reasonable accomplishments for the upcoming year. Then I break that down with a month-to-month "how to get there" plan. So far so good!

I recently had a coworker who was let go due to her facebook posts. Even seemingly innocuous things like posting a picture she took of herself with the caption that she was "hiding from work."

Your internet is everyone else's internet too- be careful!

Tools of the Trade / Re: 5 fingers
« on: Mar 30, 2012, 11:19 am »
So I'm interested in the merrell barefoot "pace" glove (NOT the "fingers"; just the really lightweight minimalist shoe) for REHEARSALS, not necessarily for being on deck.  Mostly because they are quiet and very lightweight.

But how much cushion/arch support do these minimalist shoes *actually* provide?  I don't have totally flat feet but I don't have that much arch either...so whatever I wear needs to have SOME support.

I've never tried them myself, but a friend who did said they have very little cushion and almost no arch support. If you have more of a natural arch they'll be easier to adjust to than if you're totally flat-footed.
