For a couple days after closing this one show, at around 7pm (our half-hour call) I'd get super edgy, my adrenaline would kick in, and I'd have to walk around in circles until my body/mind was satisfied that I'd spent the appropriate amount of nervous energy for that time of night.

Oddly enough, it was only ever that one show. Never happened since.

So the idea is that you buy the special punch, and then you can insert any regular paper into the notebook? Or do you need to purchase special paper as well?

An actor asked me the other day what the weirdest thing I'd ever heard of a stage manager keeping in their kit was. I gave him the standard "unlubricated condoms" answer, and promised to ask around.

So - what is the weirdest thing you keep in your kit? The weirdest thing you've seen in someone else's kit? The weirdest thing anyone has asked you for?

Stopwatch. Most of the time I find my real function in rehearsal is to clutch at my stomach and tell people the time.

Another group-chant game I that like is Show Us How You Get Down:

Players stand in a circle and establish a rhythm through clapping or tapping their thighs. Player One begins the game by engaging Player Two in the following exchange:

ONE: Hey Player Two!
TWO: Hey what?
ALL: Hey Player Two!
TWO: Hey what?
ONE: Show us how you get down.
TWO: No way.
ALL: Show us how you get down.
TWO: Okay.
ALL: D-O-W-N, that's the way we get down. (x2)

On the first D-O-W-N... Player Two shows off a dance move for the whole group. On the second D-O-W-N... the entire group performs Player Two's dance move. Then the chant begins again, with Player Two calling on Player Three, etc.

The other day an actress was asked what was in her salad, and couldn't remember. As she went "ummmmmm..." I looked down to where my script usually is and drew in a breath to feed her the line.

During the rehersal period (especially just beofre going into tech) I've had nightmares about having to put the show up as-is: without having done a Q2Q or called it all the way through or finished the lighting, etc. It's good to wake up from those and remeber there's still another two weeks to go.

I'm taking a creative writing course right now, so when I'm not in the theatre (I should say, when I'm not working - I'm usually in the theatre anyway) I'm working on some project for that. Also, small crafts/collages/repairs - like decorating my backpack with buttons or hot glue gunning sequins to CD cases.
