And I'm assuming you are talking about the LORT website and not AEA, right?
Yes, the LORT site.
I quite like the AEA site, clean and well organized.

Barn doors are not old school  -- they're still used with modern fresnels.  And they aren't used to get different throw angles but used instead to cut the light beam -- like shutter cuts on an ellipsodal (which is what I think you mean by "mask" -- but if someone referred tot he masking on a fresnel, I would assume they meant a piece of scenery or soft goods blocking the instrument from sight.
They could also be talking about Rosco Cinefoil Black Wrap or a similar product.

LORT Rulebook.
Wow, talk about a horrible website.
Vernon, is there an online copy of that document elsewhere?

when he arrived at last night's rehearsal he had obviously been drinking.
I can't find anything specific in the special appearance agreement about being incapacitated.
But that may qualify as just cause.

Forgive me if I cite wrong, but I believe rule 59, section D of the Transition rulebook has the definition(s) of just cause.
Rule 55, section I subsections 1-8 defines lateness, proper documentation and penalties.
Transition Contract Rulebook 07-10
(not a direct link because I can't get to my server)

Also, drunk people are a liability to the building's owner(s).
In theory insurance policies can be revoked if a complaint is registered with the insurer by say a disgruntled employee.
As we all know, no insurance equals no show.

Then I realized that "Oh wait! Our TD is effing nuts! He built us an 8 foot platform with a trapdoor in it!" So we're going to get two of those giant floor-drying fans and blow hundreds of cards out of there.
We absolutely must see photographs of that!

Employment / Re: Entertainment Industry Expo

Yes but lunch is included.  There are usually some student volunteer spots available where you watch a door or act as an usher in exchange for you admittance fee.  The volunteers normally get to see about half of the conference.  I’m fairly sure that they are already full for this year but you could always try for next year.
At convention center food prices $1000 barely gets you 50 sandwiches. ::)
I might look into it next year or something.

A little more expensive but well worth it if you are looking into the concert industry.

Huh, I have never heard of this either.
I may be off that day, and since it only costs me $75 round trip I might make an appearance.

I do believe this all goes back to what I was taught in primary school:
"If you made the mess, you clean it up"
As simple as that.

I've also had dancers who are listening to their iPods backstage, set them down still playing and then go on stage -- leaving me to wonder "where is that music coming from?"
If you can hear their earbuds it's set a hazardous level.
There going to be real sorry in 10 years.

What's been the best/worst experience of your nutcracker this season?
Mine got canceled, both bad and good.
Bad= no money :'(
Good=more time with family and job hunting

However, I personally think you should just go with natural makeup.
Agreed, there is a fine line between authenticity and being offensive with "ethnic" makeup.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Injured during tech?
« on: Dec 12, 2007, 08:10 pm »
I'm pretty appalled at reading how some of these injuries are occuring.  Some of this is the kind of neglagence that should be getting people fired.

I would imagine the majority of these "war stories" are hyperbole of the actual circumstances for better bragging rights and are not necessarily cases of gross negligence.
We would never do that.
(note sarcasm)
