The Hardline / Re: Creating Contracts
« on: Jan 12, 2011, 06:08 pm »
The last non-union contract I was on spelled out the following things for me:

start and end dates
payment schedule
job duties
who I report to
workers comp and liability insurance coverage
promised I wouldn't work on other projects that would interfere
termination terms
things I would be reimbursed for
transportation/per diem issues

Hope this helps!

The Green Room / Re: Snowed in in the South

I'm in Boston and we cancelled our opening night show for the night.  I have tons of computer work I should be doing, but my husband has a snow day too and it's hard to focus.  It's developing into a wine and movie day, watching the dog play in the snow.

I don't have any full prompt books for plays.  I have a few opera scores from when I ASMed, as the companies only want paperwork, not the cueing book.  Those have been helpful as I repeat operas, and also for teaching students about opera.  For plays, if I want any of my paperwork it is on my computer.  Other than that, it all gets handed over to the production manager when I walk out at closing.  Even the ASM books I have I offered to the company first, it's their property first, mine second.

The Green Room / Re: Suffering from what I call "theatredox"

I always try to set aside one day where I stay in and do nothing but rest.  I sleep in, keep my phone off, try to stay off the computer, play with the dog, eat whatever's in the fridge, read, watch tv, something to give my brain permission to drift.  Then the next day I'm tired of doing nothing and am ready to be productive - clean, empty the inboxs of my various email accounts, I get started cooking up the pile of recipes that I've gathered, try to see friends.  I call it 'being a person'.

The Green Room / Re: Happy New Years!! My Resolution is....

This wasn't a resolution, but it has been on the to-do list for awhile.  I'm finally cleaning and consolidating my kit/toolboxes/office drawers.  I go into tech on Tuesday and it feels like a good start to the year.

...to be better at keeping touch with people I've worked with.  To not get so buried in show emails that I forget to send personal ones to family and friends.
