I find being able to keep time is much more useful. Also being able to read things like measures, repeats, etc. I had 4th-grade-music-class-level of experience, and that was fine, though I rarely do musicals.

However, on my recent downtime I started taking music lessons, partially just to do it (guess who plays the ukulele now?) but also to learn to read music. A perk, since I'll be doing nothing but new musicals for the next 6 months!

My cousins used to have these things called Splat Backs...they're gel balls that when thrown will splat flat for a second, then return to their round shape. They came in a bunch of different styles and colors. Maybe something like that?

I've found a great, simple answer. "You know what a project manager does? Like that, but for a show." I'd say 90% of the people I talk to know what that entails, though your mileage may vary.

I'm heading to Philadelphia in a month for a wedding and to do some exploring. And the week after that, my college reunion. I might also try to sneak in a trip to Boston sometime, too.

#6 is interesting: it's ok to be an unpaid intern if you know you're going to be an unpaid intern. So, if these people knew going into it that it was unpaid, it's not illegal?

(I don't condone unpaid internships, in fact I don't know how these people afford 6 or 7 in a row!)

When one actor's entrance/exit changes from SL to SR....and you have to reblock everything around to compensate.

Half at opening, half at closing.

However, since you're under an AEA contract, you should have union backing you up if it seems you might not get paid. There's also small claims court (which I did have to mention once when my fee was past due).

I've been using it more and more and really liking it. Besides the reasons everyone else has given, I've used it a lot with sound designers to get rehearsal SQs or to test SQs in rehearsal.

I won a crazy fancy blender during a fundraiser raffle for the last show I did!

Spinach is a great add-in...adds a lot of vitamins without changing the taste (though it WILL change the color).
