..."Unfallverhütungsvorschriften"...

Say that 3 times fast....

I've heard great things about these shoes for exercise and from people who work in offices/labs, but I would definitely feel uncomfortable wearing these backstage.  Even in a theatre like my current one where there aren't really any scene changes in the current show it just seems like a safety issue for tech/management.

We did this same trick in Kiss Me, Kate with the string and pulley method.  Works great! Sometimes, the simplest idea is the best.

I'm trying an experiment in 2012...however nerdy it sounds...I'm going to try and collect data on my life.  For example, eating habits, money, work hours, sleep, etc...  I analyzed my spending habits only this past year and learned a lot.  I'm going to try it with more categories this year and see what I can learn.

Employment / Re: Response Time
« on: Dec 29, 2011, 02:53 pm »
but in this era - responding to a work e-mail within 24 hours seems to be a fair request - especially in a job offer situation.

Agreed. Everyone has a smart phone these days.  Send me back an email, even if it says I've received this.

When in a hiring situation it is usually the first qualified person to get back to me that is the one to get the job.  It shows promptness, respect for time and best of all, enthusiasm.

Since we're approaching the winter season, I break out the Aveeno hand lotion every day.  My knuckles tend to crack and bleed - a problem since I've had since gymnastics in high school.  I'll use it occasionally after a big build too if my hands are particularly beat up.

As far as anything medicinal, advil liquigels are my go-to pain medication. Nyquil and Dayquil are great when I feel a cold coming on and need a good night's sleep.  I've never put much stock into Emergen-C or any of those supplements; I tend to rely on a good night's sleep and eating right.

I've been wanting to try Dr. Schol's for a while...maybe for Christmas!

I had to cue a scene change crew upstage (not enough intercom packs in this case), so I ran a cable from one of the lighting circuits to their area and used a blue light bulb.  I programed the chanel to a submaster on the light board and then used the "flash" button to blink the light.  Light blinking meant "time to exicute the next scene change".

If you had enough spare circuits, you could use different color lights to expand the cueing.

I've done this before. Worked great. I even once managed to program the cue light into a lighting change so I never had to worry about it.

I've made my own cue light system with a few switches, a spool of wire, a gang box and some black lights. Definitely cheaper than the commercial ones and way easy to do if you know your way around simple wiring.

I recall my college doing it with strobes.  You get the creepiness factor and the timing of the strobe can be used to swap actors or slip on a costume.

The Green Room / Re: The Great SM Gift List

I'm hoping for a new circular saw (mine broke 2 months ago) and a jig saw (I've always wanted one!).

As far as little gifts to get everyone, I'm still searching, but I would like to do something creative and hand-made like the scarf idea.

The Green Room / Re: Reading Plays

What about some more recent plays?  David Auburn, David Lindsay-Abaire, Neil LaBute, Nicky Silver, Paul Rudnick, Sarah Ruhl, and Martin McDonagh would be a few contemporary playwrights to check out.  I try to keep up on the current stuff by reading ones nominated for the Pulitzer or Best Play at the Tony Awards.  These websites have the lists of the nominees and winners:  http://www.pulitzer.org/bycat/Drama and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Award_for_Best_Play

Love Lindsey-Abaire and Ruhl...try out Alan Ayckbourn as well!

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: Les Mis
« on: Sep 07, 2011, 12:59 pm »
When I did Les Mis, I used the libretto for my call book.  If there was a cue that happened on the music, I cut and copied the piece of music, put it in my prompt and put the appropriate cue on the appropriate note (I can read music though).  It worked well enough.
