Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / PROPS: On stage with REAL food

We are doing the show Anything Goes and at one point whip cream is supposed to be thrown at an actor, but we worry that the whip cream will stain/smell etc. Any thoughts or ideas on how to fool the audience or how have you dealt with this problem before?
