The Green Room / What do we do?

So, I was thinking today- what's the best way to describe what we do to non-theatre people? I usually end up tongue tied in the middle of a five minute explanation that only makes people more confused. How do you describe stage management to family and friends who, when told you do theatre, just ask you over and over again if you're going to be the next Steven Speilberg?
