The Hardline / Non-AEA PA pay for tech?
« on: Dec 10, 2013, 10:03 pm »
Any of the current or former non-equity Production Assistants's out there ever get a tech-bump or additional pay to compensate for the extra hours worked during tech and previews? I know it's part of the Equity contract, but the PA is putting in all the extra hours as their union coworkers but without additional pay.  (This would apply to PA's that are paid weekly rather than hourly).  Thanks, wondering how some other companies address it.

The Hardline / Tech under SPECIAL APPEARANCE AGREEMENT?
« on: May 31, 2012, 05:17 pm »
Can anyone explain how tech works under a Special Appearance Agreement?  It seems pretty clearly stated, "Maximum of 30 hours of work (rehearsal and performance) per week." (under Level II).  And that work days cannot be over 5 hours without overtime.  So does that mean no chance of longer days or a 10 out of 12 for tech without major ovetime pay?

"There shall be no less than one scheduled full day off each week, free of
rehearsals, performances, costume and/or photo calls.  A full day off shall be
twenty-four (24) hours in addition to the rest period required in (G)(3) above."

And is there any option to do a seven day work week (just on Opening week)...with or without overtime pay?

Just trying to get a better understanding of all this since I can't imagine how you tech if your lead is equity and the company can't afford the overtime hours.

thanks for the help

Employment / Resident SM?
« on: Jul 02, 2011, 02:42 pm »
Are there any standard inclusions in the job of resident SM? If it's a smaller non-AEA company, where no one gets benefits etc. is it just that they have locked in a SM (and you have the job security) or is there more to it than that?

and on that note... is a resident gig of this type worth it, or is better to stay uncommitted and go where the best offer/show is?  is resident SM a big resume builder?
