Hello Everyone,

I am attempting the impossible.  I'm starting the process of building a call script word processor (no title yet all ideas are welcome).  The ultimate goal is to make a Mac application that is specifically geared towards making digital call scripts where text seamlessly interacts with cue/boxes, where layouts and margins are easily adjusted, and page numbers can be quickly manipulated.

I would love to get as much feedback as possible.

Here are some of my questions:

1. What are your general preferences are when creating a call script?
2. Do you keep your book on the left side or right side?
3. Do you like the cues on the left or right side of the text?
4. How do you notate your page numbers?
5. What shapes you like to use (any images are welcome)?

Any other ideas are welcome.  Also, if anyone happens to have a background in Objective-C Cocoa and Xcode I am learning the language as a go and would love the help.

I'm currently doing this project as a Theatre Project (aka independent study) but I plan on working on the post graduation, which is in May.

Thank you so much!

Students and Novice Stage Managers / The Executive Decision
« on: Dec 19, 2012, 03:46 pm »
Hello,  please point me in the right direction if this has already been addressed.

When do you, as the stage manager, get to make the executive decision?  Or, what are the questions that you should always ask a director, designer, or superior of some kind, before making a call?

I find that I am afraid of being wrong or saying the wrong thing so I am always asking for clarification or permission before doing the smallest of tasks.  It either makes meetings take longer than people want them to or it frustrates people that I don't just get things done.

Thanks!

Employment / Internships. How to Proceed from the West End.
« on: Nov 02, 2011, 07:56 pm »
Hello.

I'm an American SM student doing a Work Placement, or Internship, with stage management at Wicked on the West End.  I'll be going back to the states in 5 weeks and I'm looking for summer internships.  I'm a little stuck as to where to go next.  Can anybody help me with ideas of places to apply?  I live in New York, without a car but I can travel anywhere.

Thanks!

Tools of the Trade / Kit: Box vs. Bag
« on: Jan 30, 2010, 09:52 pm »
What do you guys think about a box vs. a bag?

I like the idea of a bag w/ adjustable tackle boxes inside.  Is this not going to work as I become a more experienced SM?
