Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / TECH: Overheated actor
« on: Aug 04, 2009, 03:08 pm »
I'm stage managing Footloose for a youth theatre company, and we are just entering tech. As we begin to run the show, it's become apparent that our Ren is very tired, overheated, etc during the run of the show. With the amount of times he appears in scenes added to the demanding choreography, he literally comes offstage out of breath and sweating every other scene.

We're doing the best we can to make sure he stays hydrated, but I was wondering if anybody has any tricks that are useful to help an overheated actor cool down. I've been told cooling off their wrists with ice packs is the quickest way, any other thoughts?

College and Graduate Studies / SM Colleges
« on: Jun 27, 2007, 01:21 pm »
I'm starting my senior year in the fall and I have to start visiting colleges. I have two questions, one any suggestions for SM colleges, BA or BFA, in the Northeast? I live in NY and really want to stay in the (relative) area. Two, when I visit colleges, are there any particular things I should look out for in their theatre program?

I'm really looking for any suggestions you can throw my way, thanks!

Stage Management: Other / Advice for stage managing a concert?
« on: May 28, 2007, 04:06 pm »
Help!

I've agreed to stage manage an outdoor concert at a human rights rally run by a friend next weekend, and I really don't know what to expect. I'm new to stage managing in general, and the few shows I've done so far have been plays and musicals. My friend hasn't had time yet to fill me in on what she needs from me, despite my best efforts to set up meetings with her. Since it's less than a week away, I'm getting a bit nervous. Can anyone give me any advice on the matter? What would normally be expected from a stage manager at a concert? Any tips, suggestions, etc?

Thank you!
Jennifer
