Employment / University/drama school Vs. real world experience
« on: Oct 17, 2007, 03:58 pm »
As a student intending to go into the industry next year, I've thougt hard and long about wheather I should go to uni/drama school to study stage management, or just go straight into work, avoid a £50,000 debt and get 3 years experiance under my belt.

For those of you who who sit and read CVs debating who to hire, which in your opinion is better? A degree in stage management, or SM experiance?
Would be nice to know...
Cheers.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / High School Musical
« on: Aug 30, 2007, 05:33 pm »
So the production company that I currently work for alongside doing my tech theatre college course has just got exclusive rights from Disney to put on High School Musical, lucky me; I've been given DSM. I've DSM'd before many a time, but all on smaller scale productions - this one should be in excess of £25,000. Any general advice anyone can give on working on larger scale productions seeing as I'm still a student and have never experienced something like this before. Cheers.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / DSM Help
« on: Mar 07, 2007, 02:13 pm »
Hi everyone, I began a Technical Theatre BTec in September and have just been assigned to be the Deputy Stage Manager for a big scale musical in a professional theatre, I was wondering what I need to include in my DSM folder, obviously I need the script with all the blocking, cues etc. but what else do I need to include in the folder? Help would be much appreciated as I don't really know much about DSM as I prefer sound design, but I want to expand and be good at Stage Management too. Thanks in advance for any help.
