If gelatin is out then Kool-Aid is probably out too.  Food coloring will probably get you to the closer color anyway (since OJ tends to be on the yellower side.)  I'd say the most important thing to making it look realistic would be the opaqueness.  The powdered milk is defiantly a good idea, I'd also try corn starch.  It dissolves well and is a little more tasteless but be careful as it's also a thickening agent.
