Stage Management: Other / Re: Stage Management-TV?
« on: May 10, 2012, 11:34 am »
Sorry to bring up and old thread. Didn't know if I should create a new one.

I am currently doing an internship/shadowing with my country's best TV broadcaster under a "Good Morning America" type of TV show. The job (jobs) I have been shadowing are currently camera, directing, teleprompter, and graphic management. I believe from this positions the one that is closest to SM is directing/calling cues and cameras. I will be starting this fall at Fullerton my studies for SM. However I have two questions: Has anyone here had any type of experience before? and Do you think I should add it under my "experience" area of my resume?. I'm 18.

Thanks!

Here's a clip of a production that uses projections and video to interact with the actors and create a 3D effect. I think the effect is pretty astonishing- I can only imagine the planning and prep that went into creating it!
Thant is incredible! I loved it on video, I imagine how would the effect be while watching it live. You get captivated, but is yet a thrilling and strange sensation. I have seen some mapping process on buildings that create the 4D projection effect for an audience, but mixing this with live actors is a hard to accomplish. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you very much for the advice! I am a current student and still have some years to graduate but this can help me with my current resumé.

A lot of stage managers I know have worked at Disney, but most of the positions are full time, and there are lot of politics about union, management, versus just employee - I am not sure if it is something you are passionate about - but it can get frustrating at times for certain people . . . other people LOVE their time working at the park.

You should always shadow.  South Coast Repertory is a regional theater close, there are lots of road houses in Southern California as well.

Thank you very much Matthew! I have asked at FC and they told me you have indeed to be part of their productions in order to later graduate as a SM. Thanks for your help!
