I'm wracking my brain, but the only thing I can think of is trying a very, very small log.  It would work with the lighter fluid and match.  Just make a platform in the trash bin so it's high enough to make it look bigger; this way it can be extinguished as well.

I've never had to make a real onstage fire, so that's about all I've got.

Students and Novice Stage Managers / Re: The Ultimate Decision

I got started with a musical in 10th grade.  I knew I was born to be onstage.  Well, I moved after that to a bigger school with a much smaller drama "club".  We had about three crew members and never an official SM.  So, while I was onstage I would help with sets, costumes, make-up, props, everything.  I can honestly say I have done everything for a play besides lighting and sound..although I could do it if push came to shove.

Well, I heard about a play at the local community college, so I emailed the director (I've known her for a while) and asked her if she had anything open, whether it be onstage or off.  She told me the only things she had left were SM and lighting.

You can see which one I chose.   :D

Now, I'm trying to decide if when I go back to school I want to keep with my original plan of culinary and opening my own restaurant, or becoming a SM.

I'm thinking of sticking with SM...actually LESS stress, believe it or not.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Re: Dressing For The Part?

When starting out, like when first approaching the director (around here, you don't interview, it's based on who you know) and during read-throughs, I usually break out the business casual.  Nothing too fancy, just nicer shoes, black jeans, a nice t-shirt or pretty top.  Now, when the show gets underway, it's black cargo pants (being human, I only have two hands and I need about 30) and black t-shirts or tank tops, depending how sweaty I'm going to get that day.  And I love my black DC's.  As long as it's black and not ratty, you look pretty professional.
