The Green Room / SMs in media?
« on: Nov 13, 2005, 12:29 pm »
I think Scooter took over SM duties as the show continued...mainly cause his uncle? owned the theater.   The only stage manager I've ever seen on TV or in the movies with a firm grasp is the sex in the city episode...which I loved, and I cheered, especially when she swore and started the next model down the runway.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Doodles
« on: Oct 22, 2005, 06:52 pm »
I don't doodle because I am bored.  I doodle because I need something to look at.  I enjoy the rehearsal process and I don't use doodleing as an "escape".  I just do it because that's what my hand does when I'm listening really hard.

Stage Management: Plays & Musicals / Doodles

I already have all that work done by the time I am doodleing.  I spoke to my director about it.  You know, the "am I doing what you want me to do" type questions.  Apparently I am doing "great" and I am "one of my favorite stage managers ever" (pretty good for my first show, no?) I also spoke to him about my doodles and he said he didn't really care.  Which is nice, but I am still going to try to break myself of the habit, because I feel like it is rude as well.  It's like a compulsion!

I do it too, all the time.  My SM advisor says it makes me look like I don't care about being there.  I am going to talk to my director tomorrow about it.  I just can't help it.  If I don't have another piece of paper there I doodle right in my prompt script.  ~GUILT~

The Green Room / Food

I aways take a Miracle Whip jar full of Lemonade to rehearsals with me.

I haven't tried that, but it sounds like it might work.  I type all my scripts out in word so I can make them bigger and get bigger margins.  Plus it helps me get to know the piece a little better.

If it works for you let me know.  My rehearsals start next week.

SMNetwork Archives / kit
« on: Sep 16, 2005, 03:17 am »
I got my stage management kit from my family for my birthday.  I just passed around the list of the stuff and got it all plus some.

I found that people ask me for sticks of gum more then anything else.  And change for the pop machine.

I found a great scrapbooking backpack for my kit, but it costs $120 so I haven't gotten it yet.   Maybe after I have a real paying job.  Right now I use a Mary Kay sample bag that has littler bags inside of it that are clear and zip and velcro in.  I only scanned the previous entries, but did anyone say Tape Measures?  I also keep ear muffs in my kit, so if an actor is preparing they put the earmuffs on and everyone knows not to bother them.   It also blocks out some sound.  I also found this little pack of ten plastic bags in packed into a three inch flat square.  I found them in the check out line at walmart for 79 cents.

Also I keep a pair of big black socks in my kit, because nothing bothers me more then a crew member running around with white shoes.
