Starting Over Again
« on: Dec 21, 2014, 11:05 am »
Hi,  I'm Carol, and I've been lurking for years, and finally decided to take the plunge!
Over the years I've learned so much on this site - from specific problem solving, to wonderful reference books, to recreational reading ( thank-you book club), to shared humour.

My experience has primarily been in community theatre - directing, set design, and of course stage management!  Last year I had the privilege of SMing the Canadian entry into AACT- Worldfest in Venice Florida - an amazing experience - I had to keep reminding myself that this was a community theatre.

But to explain the title....I retired from nuclear power plant operations last summer, with the aim of spending more time in music and the theatre.   I'm loving it.   ( the skill set for running a nuclear power plant control room, and stage managing are remarkably similar!)

Based on my volunteer work last summer, I'll be working on props for the local professional summer theatre for the 2015 season.

But what I'm most excited about is that I just got the job SMing for a TYA production in the spring, called "Be Our Ally". ( targeting homophobic bullying in schools)   It's professional, nonunion, and we'll be touring  schools predominantly in this area, but also across Ontario for about a month.  The archive searches will be my friend!

Here's to new beginnings!

Congratulations and welcome!  I would love to hear the stories of how your find tour compares to your old job!
