SM from the other side of the world!
« on: May 07, 2013, 02:14 am »
Hi all!

I'm a stage manager, working in New Zealand (two little islands at the bottom of the world!) and craving some big shows! I work for Auckland Theatre Company, the biggest theatre company we have here in NZ, but I want more. We don't have much funding for the arts, so big musicals only come here with touring crews (Wicked is only just coming here in September!!)

I'm headed to the States in July for a month, and really wanted to see how I could utilise my time there and see how big productions are run. Will be in San Fran, LA, Vegas, Chicago, New Orleans, Orlando and NYC :)

A bit about me as well - I'm 21, have been SMing/ASMing for the past five years, and have a BA in English and Film - so have had to learn all my SM skills on the job! I'm excited to pick up some new tips, make some connections and learn more about this wonderful world of stage management.

Thanks!
Natalie

Hello and welcome to SMNetwork!  Be sure to check out our Oceania/Australia/New Zealand regional board to connect with other SMs from Down Under.  You can also check out the other Regional Boards and Self-Promotion to look for SMs posting shadowing opportunities during the times you'll be visiting the US.  Hope you find the boards to be a useful resource and that you have a great trip!

Hiya! FYI you might get some folks doing a double take since we've got a longterm member (and former moderator) with the username GalFriday. We'll get used to you soon, though, don't worry!

Welcome.  :D

For a hot minute I thought you moved to New Zealand and created an alter ego.

Thanks all - I've edited my name to clear up any confusion :)

Many thanks for the help so far - browsing through all the forums, I'm already getting such a sense of Stage Management around the world!

Cheers!
