Happy to Find this Forum!
« on: Jan 30, 2014, 07:25 pm »
Hi!
I am a professional non-aea SM in the Bay Area, and am excited to have found this board and community, since I don't have many friends who are SMs.

I have been working a few years in the "real world," but am looking to diversify my experiences, and am also looking for a bit of advice on my resume.  I would love an outside eye or two.  I have a few specific questions, and want to ask them, but don't want to be redundant, if things have already been posted.   I saw there is a thread about resumes, but fear that it is old and people won't look at it to answer my questions?
I have been poking around the site, and the resume database is very helpful, but wanted to ask a few different questions that weren't quite answered by looking at the database.
Tips?

Thanks so much in advance, and I can't wait to keep reading some of these wonderful tips on your posts and boards!

Welcome, Christina!

I am also in the Bay Area - PM me and I can invite you to a Bay Area Stage Managers facebook group, where you can find local SM jobs and connect with other Stage Managers.

In the upper right corner of the website is a search box. Try using the search function, and you may come to find what you're looking for. There are tons of posts about resumes on the Employment Board, not just in the stickied topic at the top of that board. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, you can make your own topic - like what you've done recently regarding the 4 venues you work in, or you can add a question to the stickied topic about resume formatting. A lot of regular members use the "Show Unread Posts Since Last Visit" link (which is in the top left corner of the site) when they visit - and they will see your question without having to hunt for it.

Best wishes!

Welcome to the boards, Christina! Check out the Regional board for the West/Northwest area, where people can post region-specific material.

Hello Christina! I see the forum guidance fairies have already given you the walking tour, so that's fabulous. Very helpful folks around here.

We have done a ton of resume discussions. Most of them are found on the Employment board - and really, paging through that board will give you some great ideas on how to market yourself on all fronts, not just the resume. After all, the resume's just part of your "hire me" campaign.

Hope your time here introduces you to some great new connections in your area to help you expand into your local scene.
