Kind of New to the Field?
« on: Dec 30, 2012, 03:52 pm »
Hi there. Just wanted to introduce myself.  :D
I am currently a sophomore at Illinois Wesleyan University, and I just figured out that I wanted to be a stage manager last semester. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this site, for I'm sure I'll be a frequent poster. :P

Welcome! What made you decide to go into stage management? Were you already working in technical theatre and just narrowed the field?

Hello and welcome to SMNetwork!  I didn't even really know what a stage manager was until the spring semester of my Freshman year, so you still have plenty of time to take advantage of the courses and opportunities your university has to offer in stage management.  Be sure to check out our Students and Novice Stage Managers board.  We often post challenges there that are fun "what you do" scenarios.  Hope that you find the forum useful and that you do indeed become a frequent poster.

Leastlikely: I had done drama club in junior high (I acted, ugh), and then got involved with the crew stuff and figured out that I liked it better. I dabbled a little bit in a lot of the behind the scenes stuff before I figured out that I liked stage management.
